Don't Kill a Tree for Christ's Sake
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 12:10 AM by L. Coyote
Anyone have ideas for some "green" Solstice greetings?

The tree killers here in OR are loading the semi trailers with the deceased little trees for the US market. Trucks will travel across the continent with the dead little trees for the consumers, spewing global-warming pollution all the way. Tis the season to destroy the Earth!

1. I always thought supporting tree farming was as green as supporting other farmers.

9. Depends where
If they're planted as pretend "forests", not so much. Sustainable forests for lumber, good. Tree farms for Christmas trees, as long as they haven't displaced real forests, also good. Clear cuts and replants, not good.

6. If You Have A Evergreen In Your Yard
Decorate it with seeds, nuts and berries. Let the birds celebrate too! You will be creating no waste, feeding birds and showing others that there are more ways to give then buying presents.

7. Are these the same trucks that travel
across the country with the dead little lettuce heads, turnip roots, and aborted fruits? I'm not sure of your message.. Is it the fuel consumed for delivery or the murder of a *living* thing?

12. It is the thoughlessness of our society. Killing trees and shipping them across
country is absurd in a time when we are trying to reduce pollution. This is how ecosystems are destroyed, thoughtless actions. Every action counts. What is the sum cost and carbon footprint of the dead holiday trees?

8. You've got it all wrong, way way wrong
The trees are what we need for global warming. They're grown specifically to cut down for Christmas. They are generally not grown in the place of forests, they're in rolling meadows for the most part. They provide a living for local farmers. The tree industry is good.

Clear cutting real forests for lumber is bad.

11. I could be wrong, but
I think the Romans killed Christ for a tree's sake.

I know what you're saying. I have had the same 5 inch plastic tree for years now.

13. You know what irritated me? Rockafeller Center Tree
These people had a beautiful huge tree and let NYC cut it down to be this years Christmas tree. I saw this on the Today show and had to turn the channel, it made me so angry. It's high time NYC put an end to this practice and started using a live tree or an artificial one.

14. I've used the same artificial tree for 13 years.
I got it at Target at a post Xmas sale. It looks great if you spend an hour or so spreading out the branches - most people think it's real.
