CSPAN2 off the air in western PA?!? (Comcast)
For at least two days the channel has been dark with only an intermittent sound-feed. I'm on basic cable because it seems absurd to me to shell out $30+ per month for any cable "package" that includes a dozen sports channels.

I'll call Comcast ASAP, but in the meantime does anyone know anything about this?

I'm particularly concerned because an excellent local station was taken off the air in the same manner about a year and a half ago. First the video feed was cut, then the sound a few days later, and all the while the customer service drones insisted that no changes had been made or were due.

It would surprise me not at all to learn that CSPAN2 is being cut from the roster. We have two NBC's, two ABC's, two CBS's, two-and-a-half home shopping networks, two God-channels, and two PBS's. But I guess there's no room for a factual, informative network like CSPAN2.

Aaaargh!

2. Did they move it up to the higher numbers? They did that with my cable supplier.
CSpan One is in the lower tiers, two was moved up high to the two hundreds, and they ADDED three as well.

COMCAST is the provider up this way as well.

3. Switch to Dish
I'm doing a focus group soon that has to do with Comcast. I remember this happening a couple years back to some other market. Although C-span is carried where I live, it pisses me off they do this in other parts of the country. I would never support them and plan to tell them this is the reason why.

6. Try Dish.. We LOVE it..
they have several packages.. and we have NEVER had an interruption.. they even have high speed internet now, too.

If you like, I'll send you a "courtesy card" that will save you money.. they send them out, and all my friends already have dish, so I never use them:)

7. You're lucky you had it at all with basic. I only got 2 & 3 when
I upgraded to digital. But when I had premium basic the lineup showed CSPAN 2, but they showed sports on that channel. :grr:

9. Further update: I spoke with Comcast
Here's a very rough transcript.
ME: I see that CSPAN-2 was dropped from the cable lineup.

Comcast: Actually, it's available on channel 184 of the digital package.

ME: Do you know why it was dropped from basic cable?

CC: No, sir, but as I mentioned it's available as part of our digital package.

ME: Do you know why they moved CSPAN-2 but kept two NBC's, two ABC's, two CBS', and three home shopping channels?

CC: No, sir.

ME: Is Comcast going to put a new channel in the slot vacated by CSPAN-2?

CC: No, sir.

ME: Do you know if any other channels are slated for elmination?

CC: No, sir.

ME: Did you know that CSPAN-2 was going to be moved before it actually was moved?

CC: No, sir.

In a nutshell, they have no useful information and can't confirm whether they do or don't have any other information.

10. I don't mind the sports channels, but I hate paying for the shopping,
channels, and the religious and style channels.

BTW, MTV and VH1 suck also. What happened to "music" television.
