Chilliwack, BC man hit with Taser in extremely critical condition

VICTORIA - RCMP say a 29-year-old Chilliwack man who was hit by pepper spray, a Taser and batons in a violent struggle with Chilliwack RCMP is in extremely critical condition.

Assistant Commissioner Peter German told a news conference in Victoria today the unidentified man suffered lacerations to his head.

Officers were called to a Fraser Valley-area store Monday to deal with an agitated man.

They say a violent struggle began when the man became extremely aggressive and combative, but escalating efforts to subdue him - from pepper spray to Tasers and batons - all failed.

Additional officers were needed to finally take the man into custody.
