Raw Story and Larissa Needs our Support

How many times has DU referenced RawStory and Larisa Alexandrovna? How many times have we bemoaned MSM for lacking in real hard hitting Journalism?

I have no connection with RawStory, nor Larisa, but I dread the day they are silenced. We need them. And so, if you are able, do what you can. Click on the link for more info.

that I'm too damned obstinate to let go of. They ran a story descrying "whackjob atheists" which pretty much came down to any atheist that opened their mouth.

... and I agree it would trouble me to hear that kind of language used towards Citizens that are given the freedom to Religion as our Constitution guarantees.

So I hear you, but I am also aware of all the other Good they do with their investigative journalism. It doesn't mean I automatically give them a pass, it makes me want to read the article you are referencing, Goblinmonger.

Here goes the thought process: I'm now wondering (and I don't even know the answer to this), but does RawStory have an OpEd section?

I can't help but wonder if that was some kind of statement in an opinion piece, as it doesn't fit my picture of real journalism (whackjob athiests)...

that to some great extent I am being unreasonable. It was an oped piece. But what really made me hold on to it this long was that Rawstory never apologized for it. I don't like getting tossed under the bus and I hold a grudge for a long time.

but my experience with several atheists around these parts didn't leave me with a particularly positive outlook.

I prefer the agnostic viewpoint. "I don't know and neither do you."

There are too many atheists who hold my wife and everyone like her in too much contempt for me not to return the feeling.

It is a big tent, (Seekers of Truth), after all. I'm not sure I agree with you there, but if it works for you, then so it is.

I've never associated Religion (or not) with RawStory. Just don't see them that way. I see RawStory more as a good source for news that I'm interested in (vs. what is hand fed to us on MSM)

But I have been a Lurker for a long time. I don't know how to see what my login creation date is (2004?). I originally came to DU when I realized that the election system was being screwed. I just don't make a lot of post, but I read DU every day. (Greatest page mostly)

I Love DU, and the info I can get here. I don't participate much in conversations though. There just are not enough hours in the day.

And when I see people flaming and arguing back and forth in the threads, I will have to admit to avoiding them. I look to DU (and Raw Story) for information that the MSM is denying me. So I can figure out what the hell is going on (sifting through all the propaganda).

It is tough, I need longer days. Between listening to Randi Rhodes, reading DU Greatest, RawStory, HuffingtonPost, Crooks and Liars, BradBlog, and then on the TV Keith (on interesting news days maybe Tweety)... there just are not enough hours in the day. (full time job interferes muchly)... I digress..

So, anyway, back to my original point,

Who is willing to give this thread a Recc to help RawStory meet their financial needs to finance Good Journalism?? I can't, I started the thread (I think this is my 3rd or 4th in 3 years). I just find RawStory to be a Valuable Resource when sifting through all the Bullshit.

... dare I suggest that you were willing to give a recc to support Real Journalism (even though you have your (justifiable?) beef with RawStory?

So you rise above your particular issue for the bigger picture: The need for good Journalism (and we both hope that someone from RawStory Reads this and will talk to those who matter there about articles about .... whackjob atheists ..... so that they avoid such offenses in the future? (unless it was an OpEd.. that is Opinion, and well, we all have one)

As long as Opinion is differentiated from News and Journalism. I'm OK with it.

I'd love to see a link to read for myself what you are talking about.

Me.... some might consider me an atheist, I don't subscribe to any formal religion. But I don't really care either what other people believe, unless they are trying to force their beliefs down my throat.
