1. No Question of It, Sir
The 'moral values' movement conservatives spend far more time with it on their minds than even people who are outright 'out' and in the scene do, it seems....

Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 01:30 PM by underpants
Okay not all of them but think about how you could assure yourself of the loyalty of your worker bees your foot soldiers. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't recruit the gays that the CIA couldn't take back in the 60's (Alito, Dryer, McLellan, Rove, etc) all capable but not company material. Once they committed to that side their homosexuality could be used as the ultimate threat/control-if they get outed they are ruined personally and professionally.

That is one of my pet conspiracy theories that and they killed Tillman to keep him from getting back to the states and giving Kerry an unfixable lead.

It`s a wonder that we have so many little conservatives running around. If they could ever figure out what makes these little people turn into liberals, no doubt they would abort the little critters before they could turn into the "looney left". Abortion would suddenly become a necessity.

it was just what sprang to mind, and I wrote it.

I didn't realize at the time that it would be something off topic or something to be attacked.

27. I don't think so.
I don't think heterosexuals generally give any more thought to homosexuality than to any other phenomenon in life. And as a rule, they (or we) don't spend a lot of time having their (our) prejudices about it reinforced by our favorite Websites. I don't know too many people who sit around talking about the pathologies of gay sex.

Not to say left-wing heterosexuals don't have prejudices of our own about homosexuality. But in my experience, obsession about it on the left is rare. Do you have a different experience?

13. they hate seeing certain things in themselves
Maybe they had a slight attraction to some other guy before, like the guy who dunked their head in the toilet in high school or something, or the star quarterback who they aspired to be or something. It eats them up, so they hate that. Or maybe they had a gay experience in college, so now they have to make up for it by overcompensating. It's like Ted Haggard, having sex with a male prostitute for years, yet railing against homosexuality. He hated that part of himself. The worst gay bashers I know, and I know some personally, are guys who are effeminate. They have to make up for their unmanliness by attempting to be as manly as possible.

I think they also hate the basic idea of lust. To them the power of a women's sexuality is dangerous, because it will make a guy lose control. Women aren't supposed to make men feel like that, because really they are only good for cooking and cleaning and shit like that, to these clowns. So when they see a sexy woman and feel an attraction to that it results in shame for them. Maybe, like basically all guys, some girl shot them down and now they feel embarrassed by it, who knows? But Conservatives got some serious issues rolling around in their heads to believe or even spout some of this bullshit. A lot of self-hatred.

21. I would say the "obsession" comes from adamant denial.
People who aren't gay don't much think about it.

People who are gay and upfront about it just accept as part of themselves.

People who are gay and refuse to accept it seem to be seeing it as some sort of alien occupation possessing their bodies and forcing them to do "bad" things.

Everyone knows the closet is where the boogyman is.

22. I think that hatred of a variety of "others" is a unifying aspect of RW thinking. Combine
that with the adolescent idea that gay-bashing is "manly," and that may be the answer. One thing that seems to get past these RWers is that those who obsess over, and endlessly discuss, homosexuality are very likely gay themselves. It's true, NO ONE ELSE talks about homosexuality as much as RWers. NO ONE. It's such a give-away.

24. They are obsessed with controlling other peoples' behavior
The concern with homosexuality that you cite is, IMO, more a reflection of authoritarianism than conservatism.

There are plenty of liberal authoritarians. They just obsess about different things.

35. a domination based culture
relies on a strict hierarchy and a sharp binary division of the sexes is needed to create a hierarchy. Gays Trans-gender and other non heterosexual oriented culture/gender role twisting upsets conservatives because domination based kinds of culture require a top down hierarchy and to justify that winner grabs all mentality, might makes right is by extension is reinforced by child and spousal abuse, social 'conservativeness ' itself, external rules oppression, authority ,and hypocrisy and corruption at the higher social power levels..that the lower level people are tabooed from expressing.

Also dominator cultures are compartmentalized mentally, things just don't connect with each other in the mind. So if the conservative sees something he can't pigeonhole, box in or control he will scapegoat it as something that threatens his mental framework of how things are SUPPOSED to be..The people upset by gender issues are rigid people. And because gay is not part of the hierarchy game it threatens them. .Gays and trans-gender erase the control tactics some of the narcissistic, authoritarian personalities among us that feeling of being in control and feeling certain and when their feeling of security feels threatened and the order of how things are supposed to be changes they get so threatened by ,events, changes or people they cannot pigeonhole and dominate they scapegoat and kill what to them represents a threat to the security blanket of the cultural status quo where the conservative felt secure and knew his place. And what to be,feel;,think,or do.Homosexuality is forbidden fruit to conservatives, and taboo makes breaking the taboo all the mose scandalous in a repressive authoritarian binary gender divided hierarchy based culture held together by false anti humane beliefs that justify abuse for the transgressors of the social order that exerts control.Gays get scapegoated so the insecure conservative who fears change and loss of superior status could feel safe and secure. The social conservative, by not sympathizing with gay people can tell himself he deserves his social privileges because he adheres to the gender laws even if he secretly obsess. If the social conservative sympathized with gays maybe they would not be so dominating , closeted and obessed..with all things queer.and the urge to dominate and destroy would become a curiosity and then for some that curiosity would fade to indifference for others acceptance of the humanity of gay people and our right to exist as equals.
