Poll question: MERRY FITZMAS and a HAPPY NEW GRAND JURY. What will happen now?
With Scott McClellan's accusation that Bush was involved in crimews,
and the inference that this Junta's White House is built on LIES,
what do you think will happen now?

Post why if you have a reason to add, or another likely scenario.

1. Wish I had come confidence that Justice will be served but....
I suspect the rich and powerfully corrupt will once again prevail.

8. I want to see justice be dealt to them.
I have my fingers crossed. Damn, what a time for Congress to go on vacation.

27. Ditto. Congress does not go on vacation, just out of session. They work all the time
and the time they are out of session may be most productive. They can focus full-time w/o the constant votes, hearings, etc. And, unlike the 1700s, they have instantaneous communications.

4. I wish I didn't have to answer "Zip, Zero, Nada"
But for the past 6 years or so, that's been the usual answer to this nonstop lawbreaking.

6. Former WH counsel John Dean did say yesterday
that Fitzy never closed down the investigation. He just put it on the back burner waiting for further developments. He can convene a new gand jury if he feels that new information could lead to a deeper investigation of the matter.

This will not be his vacation season, I suspect. No Merry Fitzmas for Fitz!

7. It's no accident this story came out
just before Thanksgiving. After the turkey has put everybody to sleep they will wake up Friday morning and this will be old news, and nothing will be done. McClellan is just angry because the Bush admin ruined his reputation but he forgets the mainstream media is still controlled by them and will not report on this story. McClellan is just another victim of the Bush administration.

12. I don't think he will have time to write one. In any case,
the punishment of the Bush administration will not be for some time yet, but I do believe it will eventually come, in ways we cannot now imagine.

13. The MSM is reporting the story, and giving it full treatment.

14. One question
that might be worthy of consideration: Is there anything that would suggest that the grand jury didn't already hear from Scott McClellan?

17. I wondered if this is coming out because he already spilled the beans to Fitz
or to a secret grand jury.

20. To sell a book.
It is pretty hard to find anything in the snippet that hadn't already come out, though not from Scott McClellan. But there is nothing new in what was reported. It's potential significance would be that he might know more. It is far less likely that it would be of a criminal nature, than of an abuse of the power of office. That said, I think it's worth noting that the second article the House was preparing to charge Nixon with involved abuses of power when going after political opponents.

21. Thom just called this a Nixon smoking gun moment!
Also here's a little more fallout that you won't get on the MSM:

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003676601

<snip>
Politico.com caught up with two reporters embroiled in the Plame case. “You’re only as good as your sources,” Judith Miller, formerly with The New York Times, said "with a mischievous laugh," Politico noted. She added: “Nothing surprises me about Washington during this administration anymore."

<snip>

Later Tuesday, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Ct.) , who is also running for president, stated, "Today's revelations by Mr. McClellan are very disturbing and raise several important questions that need to be answered. If in fact the President of the United of States knowingly instructed his chief spokesman to mislead the American people, there can be no more fundamental betrayal of the public trust.

<snip>
Even later Tuesday, Valerie Plame released the following statement from her new home in Santa Fe, N.M.: "I am outraged to learn that former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan confirms that he was sent out to lie to the press corps....Unfortunately, President Bush's commutation of Scooter Libby's felony sentence has short-circuited justice.... McClellan's revelations provide important support for our civil suit against those who violated our national security and maliciously destroyed my career."

22. Scooter's already been pardoned by Bush,
so I wonder if he can be recharged with another crime now or is he off the hook. It's clear now that Bush short circuited just by his pardon of Libby as Plame says in the quote.

23. No, he wasn't.
Bush has not pardoned Scooter. He commuted the jail sentence. And that absolutely short-cicuited the legal process.

24. I don't know much about legalities and presidential pardons, but
it's my understanding that presidential pardons are final. However, that doesn't mean they can't dig up some new dirt on him IMHO. I'm sure someone with his stellar integrity :sarcasm: has a lot of other skeletons in his political closet that can be outed. It could be, I hope, that Fitz is holding out the best for last.

indicted Rove when he was considering it, instead of letting Rove's attorney talk him out of it.

26. It is possible Fitz was waiting for more evidence before indicting Rove. Like NOW!
A Rove indictment can still happen and may be easier to prosecute successfully now.
