Man! Who's learning from whom?
From the BBC:

More court backing for Musharraf

Musharraf has faced international fire over the state of emergency

The Supreme Court in Pakistan has ordered the Election Commission to declare Gen Musharraf the winner of October's presidential election.

Gen Musharraf won the vote easily after opposition boycotts and abstentions, but the previous judges in the court had questioned the poll's validity.

Many of those judges were sacked when Gen Musharraf imposed emergency rule.

The new judges said Gen Musharraf must resign as army chief before being sworn in for his next term as president.

Gen Musharraf has come under intense international pressure to lift the state of emergency, which has seen thousands of opponents arrested and a clampdown on the media and independently-minded judges.

Opponents arrested?
Clampdown on the media?
Sacking independently-minded judges and replacing them with sycophants?

Is Bush learning from Musharraf or is Musharraf learning from Bush?

2. Martial Law
pet peeve. "Martial" means military, "Marshall" is a name. (As in the Marshall Plan put forward to rebuild Europe after WW2 by Secretary of State George C. Marshall.)

4. Wouldn't Musharraf still be "commander in chief" so to speak?
They switch titles yet keep the power. Look at Putin....

5. It's astounding. And bush said Musharraf "didn't cross the line"
He arrested and replaced judges until the court ruled in his favor. Meanwhile, our media plays the uniform on/off thing as if that was the only issue. Apparently, the court was going to rule that Musharaff couldn't stay in power, not that he had to step down from the military. Seems, he's our $10 Billion guy, the guy we want to hold the nukes. Whether Pakistan has democracy is really low on our list. Like father, like son. Poppy had his 1000 points of light; junior's fighting for freedom and democracy - unless it interferes with the neoworld order.

Luckily, george won't have to replace the Supreme Court, which already appointed him leader and would do so again. He is both the president and the commander-in-chief already, and we will have a media-managed election in which, apparently, California will split its electorial votes and award the WH is to next rightwing dingbat.
