Christmas Tree Auction Shows Price Spike

MIFFLINBURG, Pa. — Christmas tree shoppers should expect to pay more this season because of rising freight and fuel costs, according to the manager of a Christmas tree auction that bills itself as the country's largest.

Nearly 40,000 trees were sold Tuesday at the Buffalo Valley Produce Auction in Mifflinburg. Auction manager Neil A. Courtney said prices were about 10 percent higher than last year.

"The freight and fuel issue is the problem," he said Friday. "I hate to keep drumming that, but that's what it is."

The extended dry fall season also is expected to result in more shedding of needles, he said.

1. I'm one of the "tacky" people who uses a fake tree.
It looks as if "tacky" is going to work to my advantage this year. :D

2. Christmas trees
I live in an area of Christmas tree farms sooo the wife and I don our Santa hats and go hunting for the perfect tree every year. The Joy you get when you finally find that 'perfect' tree and cut it down ( while FREEZING your *** off)knows no bounds.:bounce:

4. Welcome to DU, H. Cromwell!
:hi:

You're fortunate and after braving such weather you've earned your prize. :)

In my region all the trees are shipped in and none too fresh when they arrive. :(

3. It's so much easier
After three years of wrestling with a live tree when we were first married we decided to buy a fake tree. We've had one for 38 years. We're on our third tree so I'd say that's a bargain.

5. It is easier
I'm on my second tree in 20 years now. The first one moved out with my daughter and is still in serviceable condition.

Monetarily it is a bargain.
