Stunning temples secretly carved out below ground in Italy !
Stunning temples secretly carved out below ground by 'paranormal' eccentric.

Nestling in the foothills of the Alps in northern Italy, 30 miles from the ancient city of Turin, lies the valley of Valchiusella. Peppered with medieval villages, the hillside scenery is certainly picturesque.

But it is deep underground, buried into the ancient rock, that the region's greatest wonders are concealed.

Amazing pics:

2. Amazing.
I'm beginning the process of building a place to live, and I'm daunted by a simple square box. Well, at least we have one thing in common- planning. Ugh. But it shows that even they can be overcome. :)

This is pretty damned cool.

4. That's too intense! Like Gaudi, Dali and Tiffany had a child!
The lotus petal columns! The stained glass! The Pre-Raphaelite influence on the human figures! My brain hurts, but I like it.

21. Not surprisingly, it looks like Alex Grey is involved with this thing.
I immediately thought of him when I saw it. He's great.

13. Italy's government actually takes care of artistic treasures,

restoring them and safeguarding them from more atmospheric damage. They don't tear down old buildings and put up parking lots, like some countries I could name. If you were an old building or artwork in need of restoration, Italy is the place you'd want to go.

19. True enough...
They value their art. I'm peeved that they'd assume that the people that built the temples wouldn't have the wherewithal to look after the site themselves, though.

Perhaps I reacted hastily, assuming they returned ownership of the temples to the organisation that built them? If not, as far as I'm concerned it's just straightforward theft.
