I just saw Redacted and can't stop thinking about the poor girl and the
remains of her family. I can't get my head around the evil that is the U.S. We have broken a record for resurrectring everything evil and brutal from history and going after the world and us. Who knew so many could be hated by so few. And they got into power.

4. The post did not say that
But we have committed a LOT of atrocities. The troops and Blackwater. Abu Ghraib. Extraordinary rendition. All kinds of atrocities committed in our name.

18. Are you suggesting none are?
I would bet anything you have not seen the movie. Nowhere does it say or the poster say all troops are baby killers and rapist. You are the ONLY one saying such shit...

'Redacted' Producer Blocks Real, Horrifying Images

by John McChesney

All Things Considered, October 23, 2007 · Director Brian DePalma's latest effort is embroiled in controversy on two fronts.

The first is that the film, Redacted, is a fictional version of a real event in Iraq: the rape of a 14-year-old girl who was subsequently murdered along with her family.

9. Your point?
Do you think this movie portrays a FAIR representation of US troops? (Not based on isolated, anecdotes)

11. My God, how callous and dismissive you are...
Of course most of our troops, marines, and sailors are doing very honorable service in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. That does not negate the very serious attrocities that have been committed in your and MY names.

12. I thought my point was pretty damn clear
Do you think all US troops who have involved themselves with this odious occupation are just good old boys?

16. The power of the report on the My Lai Massacre was that it revealed the essential nature of that war
This episode, the rape and murder of a child and her family by foreign invaders, describes the essential nature of the invasion of Iraq. What your leader has done to Iraq is described perfectly by this one atrocity.

19. Can you name all the good of war?
You dismiss this type of atrocity as being out of the norm. OK. So what is it about a war of profit for the Bush cronies or any aggressive war that is good, or glorious, or acceptable, or even normal? What need did we have to start this war? When is killing civilians acceptable? Is it OK if it's a missile launched from one of our battleships into a city? Or one dropped from the air? When our soldiers crash down doors and invade private homes is that acceptable as long as they don't rape someone?

Please justify war for those of us who are so unimaginative that we believe acts like this are based in reality.

17. Based on a real event - for me it shows the pain effects of a war mongering country.
Edited on Sun Nov-25-07 10:12 AM by higher class
The confliction of soldiers, the denial of a more normal life under peace seeking people, the fall back to invasion, pillaging, and plundering of ancient history - ignoring the gift of communication and contact to improve, not destroy. Reversal of man's evolution to improve.

Mostly, I wrote to protest the power of corporations who have manipulated government which manipulates the military, intelligence, and media to make it all come together - a blood flowing mess and new hate to contend with for decades to come.

I always keep this in mind - the number one industry in the world for many years was tourism.
Tourism with all it implicates - the safety of air and ship transportation, the welcome of the nation, the ability to learn about other people. The ability of the lowliest person to make money from the industry of tourism under the profits that spread out to all during peace.

Now, in this country, we have a Homeland Security wall with some ridicuolously absurd rules and a databse that is filling up with your life in it.

And some of our own citizens cannot board an aircraft to fly witing their own country because of a secret list.

A few caused all of this - the same ones that profit from it while the masses of people are affected by it.

I blame it all on the few who profit and manipulate the war for profit.

Fictionalized based on true times how many similar true deaths.

The big picture sucks.

Our kids did not call the profiteering shots. But they are there because of it.
