Poll question: Do you have a pre-existing health problem your insurance company won't cover?
Edited on Sun Nov-25-07 01:04 PM by Quixote1818
I blew my knee out ten years ago before I had insurance. Now my knee is to the point that I may need to have it replaced in the next 5 or 10 years. It will cost a small fortune since my insurance company won't cover anything to do with that knee. Anyone else in the same boat? I suspect my problem is minor compared to most people.

Please share your story if you do.

2. I'll go you one better
I can't get insurance at any price.

I am considered a nonperson by the health insurance industry.

And people wonder why I'm starting to set the wheels in motion to leave this heartless place.

10. I've hung in there uninsurable for 20 years.
I've given up. This country is never going to do anything but protect the fucking insurance companies.

Any universal coverage through those bastards will be an illusion, at best.

12. What's even more depressing is that Warpy is/was a healthcare professional, I believe.
I read all Warpy's stuff in the Chronic Health Conditions forum.

It is really depressing that not even our healthcare professionals can be assured of healthcare!

13. I am an MD and I lost coverage of my left shoulder by BC/BS of Florida
because I had one shot of cortisone in it one time for one episode of bursitis from my dog pulling on the leash. That's it...now only 3 limbs covered for me for life. They said I could reapply in two years and if all was well, I would get back the left shoulder coverage. I did and they rejected me although I never needed treatment again and I got a letter from a board-certified orthopedic surgeon saying my left shoulder was normal. BC/BS can bite me.

6. Yes, you probably need to move to Canada or Europe

9. Mexico has national health insurance
although they're too poor to make it universal as yet.

That's tops on my list. I'm hoping to get my health in order enough to get to Merida this winter, check it out. If the climate's too icky for me, I'll be going up into the central highlands later on.

8. We're assessing our options right now
Yep. We're waving the white flag. We're unpatriotic. Blah. Blah.

11. Come to Oregon
For the time being, anybody can get insurance here and the state insurance pool is on a sliding scale. There are a few things in it that are flat stupid, but it's as good as most people have and also has a prescription benefit.

15. I have good union provided medical insurance that covers everything, but
Aflac will cover basically absolutely nothing, because of my pre-existing conditions.

16. No. I'm fortunate to have Medicare, find it covers what I need. My experience
with the program, I have a pre-existing condition, is one of the reasons I strongly support Medicare for all.

(one aside) Doesn't cover dental...
