5. I think his resignation has more to do with lobbying rules
He can start (legally) to haul his ill gotten gains sooner if he's gone before the year is out.

Anyway, I'd much rather that Flynt out someone who's planning to stay, wouldn't you?

6. Interesting hunch. CSPAN/WJ just read an article stating that
his resignation is abrupt and is effective before the end of the year. That his health is fine and that an aide said something about "leaving to pursue another opportunity." Does sound fishy.

10. If he leaves now he'll only have to wait a year
to become a lobbyist. On the other hand his links with Randy Cunningham are well known.

12. Simply that he does not want to wait 2 years to become a lobbyist.
Pure greed! At least, he is not afraid to be honest about it.

13. Nah...It Didn't Get Vitter
Nor has it forced Craig out, either. Lott's extremely popular in Ole Miss and I can't see a sex scandal being something that could force him out...especially one fronted by Larry Flynt. In some ways, Flynt's actions are "immunizing" some Repugnicans in deep red districts as they portray these scandals as part of a bigger "left wing conspiracy"...in some cases it may help rally supporters around someone whose attacked.

The one thing that would create problems for a long-timer like HairHelmet is something that could result in a lengthy trial and jail time. His name's been linked with Abramoff and he was up to his armpits in porking on defense deals...Mitchell Wade anyone? I wonder if the adults are taking control at the Justice Department...ramping up investigations that could be the ultimate undoing of the corrupt Repugnican party.

17. Yes...I saw the picture on Nova(?) I think. I believe this is probably the
real reason although another was just suggested on Washington Journal. It was that the new laws affecting lobbyists begins January 1, 2008. This new law would detain Lott from becoming a lobbyist for a longer period of time. Could be that too.

And I stress that I hhave no evidence for it whatsoever, but friends told me at the time that Lott frequented DC leather bars. Who knows? Could be true... Doesn't he ride a motorcycle?

19. When it comes to long time Repubs leaving the Senate, $$$ tops sex any day...
$$$$ is the gas that makes their engines go.

With a new more powerful Democratic Majority in Congress, it just won't be as much fun anymore and the opportunity to make $$$$ will be greated if they head to the K Street firms now before the new lobbying prohibitions kick in.
