Oprah's politics..
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 04:45 PM by SoCalDem
I think she might end up regretting her foray into politics.

I always wished that she had taken up a generic political topic like VOTING..

Imagine if she had taken it on in 2001, and done the research. By now we might actually have paper ballots, and dismantled Diebold machines as far as the eye could see.

That topic would have appealed to all people of all parties.

and she could have tackled the media problems we have been suffering from for decades.

She's syndicated and owns her show, so she could have been a bold advocate. I cannot see anyone dumping her show..

She has a lot of women fans, but i suspect that a lot of them are republican women who love her makeover shows and "Oprah's Favorite Things" shows, but will they still like her when she's supporting a democratic candidate??

1. Oprah, as any other citizen, is entitled to have opinions
about politics and society. She is entitled to use her name and to further her ideas, is she so chooses, and without consulting with us. She is a bold advocate, as are Sean Penn, Bono, Alec Baldwin, and many others who have fame and the power of their name. If she is doing something she believes in, then there is not reason for regret.

2. Well, after she had AHHHHHNOLD on her show "because Maria is her friend", I thought she was a repuke
I'm just glad it's Obama she's campaigning for and not some repuke! Of course the repukes will try to trash her, but I don't think she's trashable. She's much too powerful now.

3. In an ideal world, a human being's exposure and power would be contingent on his or her good
judgment in making a determination about which causes to support.

On the other hand, look at what has happened to Springsteen; in my opinion he has made wise choices and the effectiveness of his activism is unclear.
