Are you ready for the all-male, all-white Republican CNN/YouTube "debate" tonight? All eyes are on Florida for the carefully-orchestrated dog and pony show will take place. As reported in US News and World Report, "Four months after Democrats took a stab at answering questions posed by a snowman, a lesbian couple, and a tax-hating minstrel, it's the Republicans' turn. The rescheduled CNN/YouTube Republican debate will take place Wednesday night in St. Petersburg, Fla., where GOP hopefuls will get their chance to answer about 40 handpicked videotaped queries submitted by ordinary citizens to the video-sharing website YouTube."

At first, Mitt Romney disdained the event, which was originally scheduled for September, saying "From what I've heard that level of respectfulness was breached . . . I don't know if it makes sense to have people running for president answering questions posed from snowmen."

Why not? You're seeking an office currently held by a giggling, killer chimpanzee, why shouldn't a snowman ask a question about global warming? Its 2007, Mitt! You gotta compete with "Dancing with the Stars" and the latest missing & murdered wife story on the nightly news. I bet CNN wishes they could get a dancing elephant to pose a question. Just comb your hair and show up.

And as for the questions? Well, don't expect any bombshells as CNN is executing complete editorial control over the questions to be asked. US News reports: "While there is a mixed bag of questions CNN can choose from, one comment by CNN's David Bohrman caught the attention of bloggers. Bohrman told the New York Times that CNN would be pitching out any Democratic "gotcha" questions, using gay marriage and abortion as examples."

I'll bet Rudy is relieved. But hang on a sec, aren't gay rights and abortion GOP platform issues? Why are they off the table?

And more importantly, who cares?

One of the reasons I love this thread is because we don't beat up on each other even when we disagree.

He's looking at modifications to DU, and one of the concerns others expressed was the hesitancy of lurkers to post for fear of being beaten down. We've never had that among Truthseekers.

My iMac came with 256mg RAM and Jaguar OS. I upgraded to Tiger OS and was too dumb to realize that they recommended a minimum of 512mg RAM. So I was slooooow. We just added 1G RAM and I'm back to normal.

Man, it was cold last night. We had the mattress pad with the heated footie part maxed out, and we snuggled under our big down comforter and still had trouble sleeping. Mr. c kept saying his face was cold! Our furnace is snarky. The indoor thermostat doesn't always interface, and we have to go out to the garage and click the starter. Neither of us wanted to venture out there, so we basically stayed awake all night freezing.

Apologies to those in the cold climates who are really suffering. We're fine, really. And it was fun poking Mr. c with my frozen tootsies just to hear him shriek.

And Ms. N - we didn't feel bad. We felt warm fuzzies remembering the innumerable great moments we had with O. The little furries always live in our hearts.

She sleeps on a heating pad, and I put a heater in front of the couch. She sprawls across the blankee with raisin and gets as close to the radiator as possible!!! Poor old straggly thing.

I think I will close all doors tonight and keep the heater running. Thank goodness the wall heater is relatively new.

Our apartment is chilly, but we only turn on our radiators when it's REALLY cold out because the apartment gets too hot when they're on.

(I think it's called "men-oh-paws")

And I loathe our power provider, PG&E. That debacle resulted in the demise of Gray Davis (charmless, but competent) and gave us the Governator.

Fortunately for us though, I prefer being cold to being hot. When I was going to college, I lived in my sister's attic that had no insulation and got the worst of both extremes. Cold is a hell of alot easier to deal with than heat. Best X-mas present I got during those years was an electric blanket!

It was an owner's suite atop a four-plex. Thing was, it was built in the 70s - when construction standards were, um, shitty. (When the cable guy came out to hook me up, he drilled right through the wallboard into faux exterior masonry. Not a shred of insulation. I had the famous wall heaters that raised the ambient temperature about 1.5 degrees for a radius of two feet.

Plus, when my power went out we discovered that the place was wired with aluminum which shorted out and could have burned down the building.

It was a cool apartment, though.

A beautifully landscaped property right on the Bay. I was on the top floor of a three-story building, and my sliding doors looked out at the SF skyline.

I couldn't WAIT to get out of there.

Constructed in the infamous 70s. Later was told the building structure was corrugated iron. You could hear every sound from either side and the apartment below. I could hear my neighbor chopping (bodies, whatever) in his adjacent kitchen. Once I came home from work and heard pounding from what I thought was my apartment. Turned out they were laying new carpet 3 units down. The sound carried so that it seemed it was coming from my unit. Sigh.

At the time I had to report to work at 6am. My downstairs neighbor boomed his stereo 17 hours a day. My floor vibrated. I went insane.

Heck, I don't expect even my good friends to remember all our furries' names - things have gotten way past the point of ridiculousness (I never thought I'd have four in the house). Actually, four seems to go better than three ...

We went from six to four in just over a year and now the place seems empty. We'll probably stick with four though since Screech and Skid are both getting old. I don't want to stress them out too much and the vet bills this year have been rather high.

Dexter just went under the futon; he's hit his CT for the day (cuddle tolerance). I don't know why ... but Dot and Snowball, my eldest (6 and 5 respectively) two, have decided to act as if Dexter's their baby. They groom him and play with him, and then my daughter carries him around, and then I do (hugging and kissing him and telling him how cute he is). And Coco (1-1/2) acts like he's her little brother. I think he just wants to ... be left alone. He's a pretty good egg about it all, actually. I think he's going to go downstairs and watch a little martial arts stuff with Papa (my hubby), upon whose lap he can just quietly take a snooze.

My guys can barely stand each other. Even Milo and Peanut, who used to get along swimmingly, are starting to fight with each other.

I'm 49, and my sister's 42-1/2, and we still have our ups and downs. In the end, we're there for each other.

My furries growl at each other, and chase each other around, smack each other, and, then I find 'em all sleeping on the big couch upstairs. And, they have times, like I said, when they actually give each other the kitty equivalent of hugs. Go figure. They're just like humans, I guess. Mine are all strictly indoors, and have had frontal declaws (I know, controversial); so, they really can't hurt each other (just annoy each other).

They really should have done a declaw on my sister and I - it would've gone better.

They seem to get along fine when it's time to be fed though. I wonder if they're just playing me.

That's what cats do to their humans on a very consistent basis!
