Verizon Phone company's foot-dragging stymies police, owner in search for dog's torturers
Warning - this is a horrid story.

THE LAST TIME Bill Whiting heard his little brown dog, she was screaming in pain as two miserable bastards tortured her.

Whiting heard this over the phone as the two monsters demanded money to return the Beagle mix.

-----

Later that morning, Whiting tried to find the phone number the extortionists had used. He called his service provider, Verizon, to tell them to release his phone records to police, but it wasn't that simple.

"I made about five calls and kept getting people who were good at passing the hot potato," Whiting says. He was told police know the procedure.

The detective working the case, who asked me not to use his name, says he got a search warrant and faxed it to Verizon on Nov. 16, but it took 12 days before he got a list of calls made to Whiting. The city was charged $150 for the search.

In happier times: Bill Whiting and his beloved "constant companion," Edna. The dog's presumed killers are still at large.

Damn stories like this make me made. First I know what I'd like to do to the jerks who stole, tortured, and probably killed this man's beloved dog and it ain't pretty. But then Verizon has to drag their feet and not help catch the bastards!

7. "Hey" yourself!
I'm ok- getting tired of being BROKE, though...I have sold NOTHING this year.

I haven't eMailed you those pics because they're all on my dead LaCie drive,
and I haven't even had a spare $75 to get that fixed. :(

I'm just about ready to go looking for another minimum-wage job to get
a few bucks coming in. The horror...the horror!

8. been there done that.
i know JUST how you feel.

i'm so nervous about selling right now.

the good thing is that i'm in the east bay -- in the right area -- and we haven't taken a price hit -- but dude -- it's waaay easier to buy a house than to sell -- especially now.

i NEED as much as i can get -- and of course you know all the reasons for that.

2. I can't describe the type of punishment the killers deserve.
Verizon is a huge, uncaring corporation. That part doesn't shock me.

9. I CAN describe everything I'd like to do to the scumbags who killed this man's dog.
But out of respect for board members' sensibilities, I'm not going to.

And somebody needs to fucking slap Verizon into instant compliance with the cops. Costs my ass, they're impeding a criminal investigation. I'd like to see the DA charge them for it.
