Tonights ER touched on the growing hatred for "illegals"
Edited on Thu Nov-29-07 11:47 PM by greenbriar
and did a great job showing how that hatred could cause some very poor choices

this kid's dad was injured on the job, he blamed a spanish speaking lady for causing the accident...when she actually saved the guys life. The son used every negative racist remark we hear the repukes saying every day and ended up killing the womans son who did NOTHIng but support his mom

I think this is going to become a huge issue and it is sad because we have so much more to be concerned with

1. I didn't see it, but the term "illegals" sounds like the "n-word" to me.

Maybe they touched on that?

4. Yes, they did. Someone used the term "undocumented", and the
rascist kid ranted that the proper word for the "spic" was "illegal". It was a powerful storyline, and I hope the people who needed to see it understood it.

2. It's a phony distraction from the lack of jobs.
Never argue illegals. Argue jobs. When we had the jobs we didn't care. Now we do. BECAUSE THE JOBS ARE GONE. Talk about the missing jobs.

3. The jobs that were outsourced to India and other places
or the jobs here in the US that undocumented workers do?

7. When we had other jobs, we didn't want those. Now we do.
I don't want to work in a sweatshop wherever it is. I don't want to do stoop labor in the fields. I don't want to work non-union construction with no protection of any kind and certainly no workmen's comp or healthcare. You do?

There has always been an underground of cheap labor. It's not an issue until all labor becomes cheap labor BECAUSE THERE ARE NO JOBS.

Stop being distracted. You are arguing the issue they WANT you to argue instead of the one that matters.

12. I agree with you

our whole economy is money and when you don't have it it sucks and it doubly sucks when you see someone doing the job you used to do for a small percentage of what you used to make because they are illegal immigrants who will and have to work for pennies on the dollar because the rich want their cheap labor, why pay us a living wage when they can hire an illegal so cheap even if they have to hire more they still save money and money is what its all about isn't it. The illegal immigrant takes it in the arse too but they have nothing to go back home for either so what do you do. Well start arresting the SOB's who hire them and hit them in the pocket book real hard and if that doesn't wake them up then throw their sorry asses in jail where they belong. I don't have anything against illegals personally but I do hate that they allow themselves to be used by our rich which does hurt me and my community directly.

suited up in the ole asbestos suite btw

edit: I guess I'll remove the asbestos suit as it seems to not be needed, wipping brow
gotta go to work
peace all

8. Of course pay rate is also an issue
If employers would pay a living wage, basically negating the need for people (such as myself) to work multiple jobs or substantial overtime, there would be more jobs available for others. Unemployment could be greatly reduced.

5. Smoke and mirrors, as always.
They are creating a 'service' class. People that believe they must accept inhumane treatment from their employers out of fear of not finding any work if a citizen; or of being deported if not legally here.

It is inhumane to force people into work with no regard for their well-being and under fear.

It is the corporations that have forced poverty on so many good people. They maximize profits and cut 'costs'(read as jobs and quality) in their quest for the ultimate profit.

The problem is they fear us. We are the ones responsible for their profits. They live off of our skills and incomes. The largest racket in financial history, the wealthy are actually the largest freeloaders, "welfare queens and kings".

Most Americans do not pay enough attention to really understand that fact, so it goes on and on. Distract the masses with trash and the ptb can do whatever their greedy, cold 'hearts' desire.

Even the passion about illegal immigration is used as a distraction. They will not give up their cheap, captive workers until the citizens are driven to accept what the 'illegals' are "paid".

How wealthy would the Waltons be if Americans quit feeding their coffers for cheap poisonous Wally World crap. And the 'media' aids and abets them, almost second by second now - for those with media induced apathy.

Too many employers/corporations demand loyalty, even for the "illegal" people, yet offer no loyalty nor fairness or even better than basic survival in exchange for THEIR comfort.

No wonder half the country is constantly stressed and surly, with another 1/4 choosing to remain blissfully "happy" as long as they can have the nice "things" 'God' gives them, while the Constitution and We the People are slowly broken down trying to make most willing to accept only minimal survival and be damn "grateful" for it.

It's coming slowly and insidiously as sure as we breathe. Maybe not quite as slowly as it has been either.

They are correct to fear us as they have no consciences and they definitely deserve to fear us.

6. My daughter and I have watched ER together for years.
She just turned eighteen and is very politically aware. When the injured man's son started ranting she turned to me and said, "Sounds like he just came from the Republican debate."

 We both teared up at the outcome.

9. A show is nothing, take a look at real life assholes....
The day after Halloween, folks, mainly adult women, were giggling during call ins on the local wingnut radio station, giving their little stories about telling little Hispanic kids they didn't give out candy to illegals! (this was in Nashville, TN)

The folks are so full of hate, they are mean to little kids just out looking for candy. Most fucked up thing I ever heard in my life.

:puke:

With these attitudes, I'm sure it is a matter of time before some redneck harms little Mexican kids in a rage or some such awfulness.....
