KO's show tonight had this segment where he talked about the
Friedman Doctrine and Chile. I don't know enough about the Doctrine to speak of it but what caught my attention was how much it sounded like the US today these years under the * criminal cabal.
What I heard was this economic idea where every aspect of the government would be privatized, corporations would have free reign, there would be some form of shock that would scare the people into submission...and a few other things I can't recall right now. I think it was part of KO's preface of the Naomi Klein segment - btw, she is very smart.

Anyone else catch this? Sound familiar?

1. yes
and Friedman is the braintrust behind the reagan/bush cabal. KO's point was that it had been tried in Chile and failed, that they have been advancing it here for a couple of decades, and Bremer tried to do it in Iraq. Same 'doctrine' in all cases.

The basic premise is that democracy is bad; oligarchy is good. Big Business would be the oligarchs. It is much like medieval Europe under feudalism, except instead of nobles we have CEOs.

3. Yeah, Chile - real live American terrorists took over.
There is a lot on Chile in the book The Secret History of the CIA by Tranto? The big push came from ITT and Alcoa? All the Republicans went in to action, including, especially, the Republican operatives in State, CIA.

And just recently, baron corps tried to privatize in Bolivia - Bechtel and a French company - the water from right out of the wells and streams of the indigenous people.

7. Privatize the water? What's next, the air? This seems to be a
global theme these days eh? Privatization...it's everywhere.

Thanks for the tip about the book.

Wasn't Pinochet the old Saddam? Didn't we put Pinochet in power too?

11. Ye[. In the name of ITT and Alcoa - so they say. Communism -
just another name for for advancing corporatism. Fear and hate objects - one right after another.

Now, it's Chavez, Morales, Mexicans (meaning all of Mexico and Central America), Muslims, and the ever hated Castro.

Do you know that the highest ranking target of Communism at one point was Albania? Now, our good friend. (And a coalition partner?) But, the embargo against Cuba advances and gets stronger - big fines for going there and coming back. And China is our debt holding friend and supplier with the lopsided balance of trade..

4. You need to read Naomi Klein's book The Shock Doctrine
and then watch the film, "Our Brand is Crisis."

5. Her book, "The Shock Doctrine"
is must reading. She brings the past 30 years into sharp focus. I learned a lot about an area -- economics -- I knew basically nothing about. I see now that it's important to pay attention.

12. Yes, I caught the segment. I'm definitely going to read the book.
One of the overlooked aspects of the whole war on commies, drugs and terrists is how much of it has been a war on what is called leftist ideology, but often is more like a war on democracy. The dirty parts of the CIA and big business making the world safe for them, but not doing right for the people.

KO called out the shock most likely to hit us next (barring terror or expanded war): the economy. And, it has been forensic in trying to get dribs and drabs of truth as each scandal gives us a glimpse into the inner workings of the powers that be. One thing I know for sure, though, these PTB don't believe in democracy. They believe in rule, and Naomi Klein is right that we need to wrap our minds around how they rule in order to protect ourselves.
