Mental Health Parity Act of 2007
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 04:27 PM by CorpGovActivist
I wonder how today's news will affect the subcommittee markup of this act.

CNN has run some sensitive, in-depth segments on related issues.

As on so many other issues, a tip of the hat to the Gores is warranted.

4. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen people do pretty extreme stuff
to get themselves hospitalized.

5. States and Localities...
... suffer severe strain from this, too.

9. That's where the problem mostly is.
Counties don't have the funds to provide appropriate care to the indigent mentally ill. And--surprise, surprise--most chronically mentally ill people are indigent.

7. Bravo to Gore on this, a VERY important issue...
but do keep in mind that actually there are many mentally ill people who DON'T want to be hospitilized and thats a bigger and more dangerous problem IMHO---I do speak from personal experience here.:(

8. You're Right...
... and it's sad to see how insidious it can be.

10. I used to have the sad job of doing a lot of commitment evaluations.
Not so much anymore, due to the drying up of funds. According to WI law, a person had to pose a substantial risk to themselves or others (and had to be treatable) in order to be committed. Now we just don't do it very much. I'm sure there were people committed wrongly, but by and large the system worked humanely.
