Animal Rights Activists Terrorize Family Of Los Angeles Mayor
From the LA Weekly:

LOS ANGELES MAYOR Antonio Villaraigosa may need to watch his back. On December 4, the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, a leading mouthpiece for animal-rights extremists in the United States, posted on its Web site a “communiqué” from a newly minted outfit called the Cat and Dog Liberation Army. It read: “Villaraigosa deserves to be bumped off like the dogs and cats we witnessed with their eyes wide, terrified before they were bumped off. He got off way to easy.”

The unknown writer of the menacing note also bragged about vandalizing the car and home of Deborah Villar, the mayor’s sister, in Rowland Heights.

Apparently, the "activists" are terrorizing Mayor Villaraigosa's sister merely to put pressure on the mayor:

THE RECENT PUSH TO RATTLE the mayor of Los Angeles and his sister comes after nearly three years of protests by aboveground activists against the treatment of animals at the city’s six shelters, according to North American Animal Liberation Press Office spokeswoman Lindy Greene. Greene, who has led demonstrations at UCLA, says the mayor’s sister Deborah Villar is now a “tertiary target,” meaning someone who does not have direct influence on city policy but may be pressured to talk to the mayor.

“It’s a brilliant concept,” says Greene unashamedly. “Even though Deborah is not entirely involved, the idea is that she would be very upset and she’ll call Antonio and say, ‘Why do I have to suffer for something you’re not doing?’ There’s a hope that she’ll apply pressure on him, or he would feel guilty for what’s happening to his sister.”

Greene, who lives in North Hollywood and describes herself as “one of the most prominent animal-rights activists” in Los Angeles, has marched in front of Villar’s home with others as they shouted their disgust into bullhorns. Villar never replied to e-mails seeking comment, but Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed that an unknown assailant or assailants poured a “corrosive” on Villar’s car and splattered red paint on steps leading to her home, creating total damage worth $3,500. The attack, says Whitmore, occurred sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on November 13, and Greene believes the Cat and Dog Liberation Army is a “new cell.”

These people are out of control.

1. I don't get it; what do they WANT?
I live in a very small town in south Mississippi; there is no animal shelter here. The streets are full of feral cats. There are no songbirds left, except for the occasional mockingbird, and very few squirrels, even though the ground is covered with uneaten pecans. Dogs and cats are carnivorous predators, and their uncontrolled and unrestricted breeding leads to ecological disaster. How can these "animal rights" morons not understand that simple fact?

Now you are throwing PETA into this?

26. Yes. I've criticized SS for creating a racist furor against the Makah...
And I wonder why the "animal liberationists" who've been tormenting Mr. Villaraigosa's family aren't tormenting PETA instead over their euthanasia policies.

42. I think animal welfare is a legitimate concern, but...
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 11:35 AM by NorthernSpy
But I reject the concept of animal rights -- especially when used as a wedge against human rights.

And after wading through the thousandth "if you're not vegetarian, you're not really progressive" thread; and after watching alleged progressives celebrate an absurd (and likely unconstitutional) 102-year sentence imposed on a man for training fighting dogs; and after reading a couple of DUers write that "we" ought to 'throw lynching back in his face' regarding a black man who argued against the hysteria surrounding Michael Vick...

Well, after all that and more, I've decided to be forthright about my objections.

That's the "pattern".

Whos cause I love but whos priorities I hate...

Of course we should be good to Animals to every degree possible but when you start calling omnivorous people 'murdertarians' you're an extremest..

5. Sorry to hear this...
Some of the British equivalents regard anyone connected with my university as potential targets, because of animal research at the university. Two of my colleagues had their cars burned by these people - and neither of them has ever done anything remotely connected with animal research.

9. At one place I worked
ALF (animal liberation front) broke into our building and vandalized stuff in an attempt to find where the animal research labs were..I think they wanted to free the animals...They broke into the wrong building though, it was the building next door.
This nitwits don't understand the potential for damage to the environment some of these lab animals can do because one:they aren't afraid of people and 2) some of them have been infected with exotics that could harm other animals immensely (animals with human pathogens are kept under INTENSE security because of that)

38. Not the same group, but animal rights extremists
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 05:28 PM by LeftishBrit
The main group that operates here is called 'Speak'; there have also been incidents from time to time involving the Animal Liberation Front.

I haven't seen reports on the latest incident, but here is a link to a rreport concerning the ongoing trial of Mel Broughton, a prominent activist, for involvement in earlier similar incidents:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/7144576.stm

Most animal rights campaigning here involves peaceful protest; but unfortunately there are the exceptions!

7. This sounds like a Bushie False Flag Group: "The Cat and Dog Liberation Army"?
I am not dismissing the fact that people in general are nuts, but this is almost like a bad joke, and would definitely be something Fatherland Security has cooked up for some ulterior purpose, perhaps of driving the City of Los Angeles to yield on some destruction of civil liberties or some other ulterior motive.

These Bushies play very deep games, it's the thing they are best at.

I don't know that this is so, but it is just something to think about.

12. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that the name sets off my "BS-o-Meter".
It really does sound like a joke invented by someone
who opposes that sort of thing.

If it's "for real", my second guess is that it's probably
a "splinter group" comprised of a single idiot.

A few internet posts + notes on someone's windshield + stupid group name...
that's got me leaning toward the "Lone DumbMan" theory!

I wouldn't go as far to say it's some government false flag operation though... Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if it's 100% legitimate too.

14. Doubt it, to be honest
There's similar stuff going on here - some of it has targeted people whom I know quite well - and I don't think the Bushies would stretch their tentacles quite as far as a British university town with few links to Big Politics.

Unfortunately, there *are* some people who combine support for animals (which is great!) with hatred for humans (which isn't) and who can become quite fanatical in the process.

18. I am only speculating, it may be above board, but not to notice a certain similarity
to the historic Bushie modus operandi of infiltrating groups, then performing violence in those groups' names to discredit those groups with the public by extreme actions, is not to be forewarned.

Let us not forget, violent White Supemacist groups in the Amerikan Empire are not considered "terrorists" but animal rights groups (and I am not agreeing with their actions, not by a long sight) have been written into law as being Terrorists.

That's my only point. When you live in a country like Amerika, that is nothing but an Iron Curtain of Televised Lies, almost from top to bottom now, one must be as wary of Party False Flag operations as they were in the 1970's Soviet Union.

Which Imperial Amerika under Bush-Occupation has become in many ways, most of them media, information, surveillance, and propaganda-related. Thank God the Buhsies haven't yet taken us closer in terms of other Soviet aspects, though I suspect it's part of their Final Solution to the Liberal Problem, whatever that may turn out to be.

23. Sure, it went on before Bush, but then, so did the Bushies
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 02:20 PM by tom_paine
Like John Gotti started out as a Capo in a crew for the Gambinos, so did our curent Bushies (who now inherit the title of the Family, as Gotti did) start out as errand boys, "drivers", and hitmen for the older Bushie Mafiosi like the Dulles Brothers and Grandpa Prescott.

Hell, they wanted to "retire" FDR and ally with Hitler and this is NOT hyperbole!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/document/document_20070723.shtml

So yes, the Bushies have been America-hating aristocrats long before they were actually Bushies, strictly speaking. But to me, it is one long unbroken string of totalitarian evil stretching back through Medeval Europe, when the Bushies ruled EVERYTHING in their own version of heaven, Feudal Monarchies in whichthe peasants were ignorant and easily controlled, and even before that I am sure.

The First Bushie was the first Social Dominator who hired the first Evil Influencer to convince the First Peasant to clobber his neigbor because he was "scary" and then split the dead man's possessions between Bushie and Influencer while keeping the stupid Peasant alternately distracted, amused, confused, and fearful so he wouldn't question why he did all the skull-bashing, but the Bushie and the Priest split all the loot.

Hence, my philsophy which leads to my specific rhetorical phrasing.

I could get them laundered into the National Lexicon like the Bushies get theirs.

You are correct, and I am sure that works against me in face-to-face conversations.

I guess I have gotten to the point where it no longer matters, as whenever I have a discussion with people, even if I am not using my own personal lexicon, I have grown used to the fact that most of us are so ignorant of American History, let alone World History, and current events thanks to our parasitized and neutralized media and eductaion systems, that I find I have to expain twenty minutes of shit just to get to the point where I can make my actualy point.

And I know few, in this ADD hyperstimulated nation who can bear up to five minutes of deep thinking without having their eyes glaze over like the characters on that show "Scrubs".

So, at some point I figured if it was going to always be like that, I might as well use my personal lexicon, too. Just another thing they won't understand and won't give me the time to explain.

NOTE: This is not to imply that I am better than anyone. I have a talent in this area, in other areas I am blind and stupid as any other Homo Sapien. One of the many curses of the Homo Sapien is that we can forever see other's blind spots but never our own. I am better than no one.

I agree with your thoughts on the hyperstimulated state of most people these days... I usually drop Smedley Butler's name and a short summary of his circumstances rather than FDR's name, as it seems to be less likely to turn most of my fellow texans off immediately. One can only hope they try to understand.

Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 02:06 PM by GoneOffShore
Whatever they call themselves, it would be good to remember what their true agenda is:

A total ban on the production and consumption of any animal protein.

A shutdown of any medical research facility that uses animals.

A ban on any animal products.

The "liberation" of all pets.

They are indeed terrorists.

And there never has been -- despite some people's assumptions to the contrary.

Animal Liberationism is a purely ideological cause that its supporters voluntarily adopt. It's not an essential identity in the sense that ethnicity or sex is. Neither the cause, nor in general its adherents, can be considered beyond criticism on the grounds of ideological affiliation.
