6. My hope is that America has grown beyond
the idea of race as a qualifier for the presidency. I think we have ... I really do. But there is a part of me that is uncertain and afraid the answer might be otherwise. Fears of that sort must have no part in the nomination process. Better to face that one straight on.

7. the difference between caucussing and voting is pretty big...
and a lot of the people standing and being counted for obama might act differently behind a curtain in a private booth...this IS america, after all.

8. No. The states with the most blacks in them are the most racist.
Vermont is more likely to elect a black man statewide than Mississippi.

9. Even though I'm a Bidenite, the question of Obama's race (my second choice)
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 08:06 AM by monmouth
is sooooo retro 1950. Voters these days, I'm thinking for the most part, don't allow race to even enter the equation. Voters these days are better educated and on the scale of what's important and what's not, race isn't/shouldn't be a factor. I still have Obama's speech that he gave at the last DNC. Awesome, he was a man colorless, that knew how to give a great speech and say something great at the same time...

10. There is no way America will elect a black person for
president, because of the fact racism and bigotry is alive and "well" in this country.

(Which is why it's disturbing and ironic Obama got involved with embracing a bigot).

I believe if Obama is the nominee, it will prompt the bigots (who otherwise would not have even voted) to go to the polls to help make sure it won't happen.

Hopefully that wouldn't happen, but I just think there are too many in this country who will vote for anyone against Obama if he's the alternative.
