He needed to win Iowa to raise money,
and he basically doesn't have much,
not nearly enough.

16. My thoughts exactly -- Bill Clinton didn't win Iowa in 92...
Plenty of states left to turn this thing around -- and it was so close! I hope he pulls it off because I worry how we would do with Obama vs Huckabee.

26. I fully believe..
... that NH is a better place for Edwards' message than Iowa.

Obama really bent over (uhh backwards, that's the ticket) to "reach out" to the right wing and let's face it there is plenty of right wing in Iowa.

There is plenty of right wing in NH also, but it is of a different flavor, one I think will complement Edwards' message well.

It looks like JE could come in second, which is actually a decent showing IMHO.

33. I live in Iowa and I think he's still definitely in the race!
So Obama is in front by a few percentage points right now.....its not enough to make him a clear cut winner. I have a feeling that this year the votes will all count because it will be close until the last ballot is cast.

He's been all but ignored by the msm with their ceaseless dull droning Hillary-Obama. He's done remarkably well. They counted him out but he's not out.

I think he's doing quite well considering.

I'm also happy Obama is the leader. We have far stronger leaders than that other side. Presi-daint HUCK-Uh-Bey? Please. You can almost hear the banjos playing and the church organs firing up. Romney? Yew've gotta be shittin me.

JRE/BHO in 2008. Any combination of the two would be a slam dunk ticket. I already feel the left and center starting to come together.

51. when clintons attack.....

Clinton is most likely going to take off her gloves and start trying to PUMMEL Obama before NH gets to vote.

She is likely to do this for A WHILE - as she often says, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon.

I think her entire machine is gearing up to hit Obama hard, over and over again. And Obama will either have to absorb it (the high road) or hit back (the low road).

Should this happen, and it winds up being a grueling ground game through the primaries, Edwards may come out on top. He also might wind up with a VP nomination in exchange for working with Obama - although i am a bit concerned that there might be bad blood between Obama and Edwards. Still, Reagan and the first Bush hated each other in 1979 but wound up forming a powerful (if evil) ticket together.

Edwards can now position himself as "above the fray".

Obama may be able to use media darlinghood from his win tonight to gather up more momentum.

In NH, if there is "switching" potential due to his win, that potential might not wind up in Obama's pockets automatically. clinton supporters might defect to Edwards, not Obama - it is possible.

I wish I could say I was into Obama's victory speech, but it seemed more of the same to me :( He did talk about leaving Iraq and a middle class tax cut, both of which would be supercool, but I really would only BELIEVE him if Edwards was in there as his VP. Mostly it was another round of "change! fired up! good job obama crew!" He was smart to fix his gaze upon the voters of NH in the speech, but it almost seemed to me that he was saying "look, Iowa wasn't racist. now you NH voters, are you going to be racist? no? so vote for me." fairly good campaign strategy but i am not white myself and i don't like the race card being used as a proxy for substance. i get a weird feeling i'm seeing to another Bush when i hear Obama speak - i just don't believe him at all, and i want to stop watching.

i wonder if students will be as big a deal in NH and the future primaries.

i also do not feel that this is over yet. there are too many dynamics and all this fixation upon Iowa has blinded us to many of them. time will tell.

57. I like Edwards a lot too.
His interviews about Universal Health Care on the XM medical channel just made me more convinced than ever that he is the person I would want in the White House of the top three candidates.

My fantasy would be an Edwards/Biden ticket.

Edwards cares about what is going on here at home with the working families and middle class. And because of his legal work, I believe him.
