Why is CNN measuring the Dem Caucuses by delegates...
...and the GOP Caucuses by VOTES? http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#IA

Am I missing something important about how the two parties caucus?

1. they are completly different
the Dems do not release vote totals, only delegate totals. For the GOP, it goes strictly on popular vote.

2. Yes, you are missing something important.
The two parties run their caucuses differently. The Dems don't make the raw vote totals available. They only provide the percentages and the delegate counts.

6. any known reason why it's done that way?
I'm nosey. Especially as the Dems were giving half percentages, etc., per county.

8. And why is that, Skinner?
I've never been as caught up in the caucuses as I have been this year. In 2000 I was 17 (and pretty sure Gore would be our candidate) and in 2004 I spent the winter recovering from a serious illness, thus missing out on most of the action.

3. Because Wolfie can't figure out the formula the Dems use...
by his own admission.

7. The delegates are assigned at the precinct level
and they are the measure of success, not total numbers of people. The Republicans have a straight vote, with a much simpler delegate assignment.

That's all I got.

I'd love to see the actual numbers of voters though.
