So is Guliani done? Hopefully?
I know he gave up on Iowa and New Hampshire a long time ago, but you think his status as frontrunner (is he still that or has the Huckster taken over in the national polls?) would have gotten him more than the sixth place, 3% he got?

If worst comes to worst, I would grin and bear a President Huckabee, President Romney or President McCain for 4 years (not that I would be happy with any of those, and not that frankly think any of those would win, thankfully). But for whatever reason, I don't know if I could stomach 4 years of a President Guliani--it would be just as bad as four more years of Bush. I don't know what it is about that man, but I just don't trust him and I just don't like him at all.

1. Romney would be better than Bush?
Romney wants to double Gitmo.

2. I really, really think the Ghoul is gone. Praise the Lord!
You're right, he was easily the worst candidate on either side. Truly awful. He's as scary as bush.

6. He would get trounced...
It wouldn't matter what a Huckabee presidency would look like because even if he should somehow become the nominee it will never happen. American voters may not be the brightest bulbs in the pack but there's no way they'd elect Huck.

9. That's what I'm thinking....
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 08:02 AM by PeterU
The Huckster and Romney are just fundamentally weak candidates and I think some of their more outrageous statements are meant to please the base and get the GOP nod. The one thing that doesn't worry me in that worst case scenario quite as much as it otherwise would is that they appear to be reasonably independent from the Bush junta. I'm not saying they don't have the capacity to still do this country serious harm, but at least that one fear doesn't seem to be a reality. And I don't think it matters, because I don't think either of them will win in the general election in the end.

Whereas I really think Guliani has been hand in hand with the Bush administration, albeit subtly. Think about Kerik as the original nominee for Homeland Security. Guliani I think has the greatest potential to prolong the extremely dangerous and harmful neo-conservative foriegn policy advocated by the Bush administration.

What worries me most about Guliani is that he is a wolf in sheep's clothing. I fear there are some very susceptible single/narrow issue voters on certain social issues who would overlook the truly dangerous nature of Guliani because they'll think "Hey, he's a social moderate, so how bad can he be?"

10. I dunno...
I remember thinking the exact same thing when the Chimpster was nominated in 2000. No way is America dumb enough to vote for this idiot. We know how that turned out.

11. Yes, but...
Bush had a family name, one that had been in the White House before. Huckabee's family name, on the other hand, just elicits laughs.

5. Huckabee would make a hideous President -- which is why he and Romney have no chance whatsoever
Rudy wasn't even supposed to play in Iowa so I doubt he's down for the count. Still,
if they can hate him there, they may hate him everywhere.

7. Not even close to done
He knew these early caucus/primary contests were meaningless in the larger scheme and has concentrated on Florida as his firewall. I did see he's now in 3rd in Florida so it's not like he's not in trouble but it's not because of Iowa or NH. Anyone who has the money to stay in the race until super Tuesday will do so.

12. Hell no. Iowa has no meaning. There is really no real voting
Anybody can vote for anything there, look at Obama and the bussing. When he gets beat in a real state a couple of times then you can say he is done. bush didn't ever campaign in Iowa in 2000 and I think McCain won. But look what happened when he went into real states, with real voting he started to win. Rudi can do the same. Huckabee is too much with the religious crap to get the nod.
