Obama's Vote Total Beats All the GOP Candidates Combined
http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/alerts/321
Perhaps the most significant aspect of Obama's win in Iowa ...

... is that the number of votes he won there, is equal to 83% of the votes won by all of the Republican candidates combined. This being accomplished at all (let alone in a state which is 98% white) suggests that GOP complicity in the Bush assault on basic human values and decency over the past 8 years has virtually undone his party's huge gains since the Reagan Administration.

Furthermore, if one factors in Edwards' 29.8% of the 239,000 Democratic turnout, between Obama and Edwards alone, two of the most progressive candidates in this race, the number of their combined votes is almost 50% greater than the entire turnout was for the Republicans.

I'm still for Edwards - but this is good to see
and i will fully back Obama if he takes it

3. So be it. Obama was not my first choice but he's far better than any Republican.

4. That's how you win the general election--the other side likes you better.

5. 4% of the voters in the Dem caucus were republicans. Not exactly "all the republicans".

7. Those who are the people who still call themselves Republicans.
That undercounts the number of people who actually voted Republican in 2000 and 2004 - and before, for Reagan.

9. Thank You
No matter what candidate we pick for the general election, we will win. People are weary of this war, weary of burying their loved ones.

2. Thanks - I've been waiting to see the figures and this is very good news.
It means that a lot of Republicans in Iowa either didn't caucus or caucused for a Democrat.

The corporate-controlled media is making a big deal out of Huckabee's win, but it is not equal to Obama's win. Huckabee represents a tiny portion of the voters. Obama represents the majority of those who caucused last night in Iowa.

6. AND--this is important--Huckabee's win was driven by a very narrow
group--evangelicals. He's an Iowa/SC niche candidate, but not a national player like Obama, who drew from EVERYBODY.

8. Edwardsi s still my candidate, but....
If OBAMA is able to repeat this massive turnout, especially of new young voters (and that's a BIG IF) he could give us coattails for the general election and finally get a decisive margin for DEMS in Congress.

10. Actually the title of your post is incorrect
It should read NEARLY or ALMOST beats - as Obama's vote was 83% of all votes for Republican candidates
