Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Susan Faludi contends that following the attacks of September 11 the U.S. psychological reaction was defined by the assignment of regressive gender roles. In The Terror Dream: Fear and Fantasy in Post-9/11 America, Ms. Faludi argues that the American cultural and political landscape became imbued with exaggerated images of brave men and dependent women. Ms. Faludi discusses her book with Marie Arana, editor of the Washington Post's Book World.

Journalists Anne Farrow, Joel Lang, and Jenifer Frank discuss their book which explores the lesser-known relationship that the North had with slavery during the 1800s, incuding the dependency on slavery to establish many well-known companies and educational institutions. The author documents how slavery helped in the creation of places like Tiffany & Co., Brown University, and Lehman Brothers financial institution.

Jerrold Post, The Mind of the Terrorist: The Psychology of Terrorism from the IRA to Al-Qaeda
Jerrold Post, founding director of the CIA's Center for Analysis of Personality and Political Behavior, analyzes the collective thinking of terrorist groups that range from Al Qaeda to the Shining Path. Mr. Post presents his book at Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington, DC.

Strobe Talbot, The Great Experiment: The Story of Ancient Empires, Modern States, and the Quest for a Global Nation
Strobe Talbot, former Deputy Secretary of State (1994-2001) recounts the development of nation- states and the progression to a global nation (i.e. The League of Nations and the U.N.). Mr. Talbot argues against the unilateral foreign policy of the Bush administration and proposes that the United States take the lead in multilateral global politics in the future.

Vincent Virga, Cartographia: Mapping Civilizations
Vincent Virga worked for eight years with the staff of the Library of Congress to create this book on the history of maps and how they reveal civilizations. John Hebert, Chief of the Geography and Maps division and Ronald Grim, retired curator of the Maps division contributed to the book and joined the author for a presentation at the Library of Congress. Following the talk, take an exclusive look inside the "treasures vault" of the Library of Congress Geography and Map division to examine and learn more about their holdings and some of the maps included in the book.
