LOL !!! - Only In California !!!

Ben Margot/The Associated Press
A surfer rides a wave churned by a winter storm underneath the
south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008,
in San Francisco Bay. A fierce arctic storm pounded California
on Friday, threatening to soak mudslide-prone canyons already
charred by wildfires and to paralyze the mountains with deep snow.

Silly me, I was just hiding under the coffee-table!

1. My dear WillyT!
A wave's a wave, isn't it?

Actually...no, that's not exactly true...

But this wave looks good, and hopefully the surfer is experienced!

Otherwise... :scared: And I don't mean cold!

Great pic!

:hi:

Stay safe!

6. Hey CP !!! - It Was One HELL Of A Morning !!!
I was out at my mom's watching the Iowa Caucuses. Made it through the night OK, but at first "light", that wind started really howling. Mom lives out in the boonies, on a dead end road, with a few thousand acres of grazing land and an unobstructed view of the Sierras. Normally very pretty.

But with that wide open space, there is nothing to block the wind. It was one hell of a ride.

Power went out at about 7:00 am, downed tree blocked the only way back to civilization. A few hours later, a crew came to get the tree off the road, and we ventured our way back into Sacramento. It was like driving though a war zone.

Parked my butt at the neighborhood tavern, which had just gotten its power back on, and tossed back a few while watching the storm roar its way out of town.

All family is safe and accounted for.

3. Here's The Whole Series

Some people actually tried to go to work today.

Ben Margot/The Associated Press
Motorists sit in gridlocked traffic during a rain storm that flooded
northbound U.S. 101 on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, in Cortemadera, Calif.

And for some, it didn't work out all that well.

Sherry LaVars/The Contra Costa Times/The Associated Press
A big rig lays on its side on the east bound span of the Richmond
San Rafael Bridge after high winds toppled the vehicle on Friday,
Jan. 4, 2008, in San Rafael, Calif. The bridge was closed in
both directions for a time, with strong winds being blamed for
causing a handful of accidents.

I just got my power and internets back!

4. Under the south tower is an area where surfers have always gone and windsurfing to.
Its called Fort Point, an old brick fort sitting right under the south end. Chrissy Field is also there, good walking place especially if you have dogs.

9. Thanks for posting that shot! My son loved it!
He's a grom (little surfer) and is hating that he can't surf during these storms, it's just too intense here in Santa Cruz. We went and checked out the waves but it's so stormy and windy, totally unsurfable where we are.

Hoping for a big swell to follow the storm and some letup in the rain so he can get back out there...

12. I know, we're going to check it out later...
Here in Santa Cruz, the spots to check are Steamer Lane and Pleasure Point, and maybe out at Manresa. Not surfable at all but should be great big waves. I'll bring my camera, if I get anything good I'll post it here.

Love those big waves! Hoping for Mavericks to hit soon!

I've sat many a day and watched them surf.... the rides are short, but they're doable.

22. Well it would be difficult to surf under the Golden Gate Bridge in Montana
So I guess you're right: California is the only state where people surf under the Golden Gate Bridge
