35. the biggest winner was the Democratic Party
A lot of eyes were on these debates. The Democrats were so vastly superior in every way to their Republican counterparts, that it's getting so they can't possibly lose in a fair general election. And I'm generally a pessimist on these things.

41. As a disappointed undecided (after losing Biden and Dodd) I must agree.
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 10:10 AM by blondeatlast
Our gang so far outshone the RRRepublicans that while I remain undecided, I've no qualms now about voting for one of the remaining candidates.

The RRR's were miserably, horribly, atrociously awful.

13. Edwards > Obama > Clinton..........Richardson
Edwards did exceptional, I thought.
Obama did much better than I thought he would (debates hadn't seemed like his strong suit) and he did well.
Clinton did alright.

Richardson. <sigh>. I'm not sure why he was there.

I actually started to like him tonight. Okay, a lot of what he said was boring or trite, but he had some of the best lines, and got the biggest laughs.

16. I think Edwards, but I am an Edwards supporter. I think Clinton did herself the most good.
I think she was able to score a lot of points about her experience about making change. I think she was very effective with that. That might change some minds. Speaking last on the Iraq question and mentioning all of the non-troops in Iraq that must be considered really drove that point hom.

Edwards was speaking more for me, however.

18. I dunno about Clinton
While I think she did fine, she consistently got ho-hum to negative responses from Independents according to the simultaneous audience response graphs from the local New Hampshire network wmur.

24. You should have added one extra option
I am of the view that it was a tie between Edwards and Obama,

Edwards for his energy and passion(and basically defeating Hillary on most points)
Obama for staying calm, direct and to the point(aka presidential which is all he really had to do)

27. Edwards - for two reasons
Firstly, because he was the only one up there actually advocating genuine progressive positions in the best tradition of the Democratic Party (FDR, JFK, Carter). Without Kucinich there, it was like one Democrat against three independents.

Secondly, because he was forceful, on-point, articulate, and sincere.

32. Edwards was a juggernaut tonight.
The other candidates might as well not have shown up for the second half of the debate. He was on message, passionate, and powerful when he was talking about dismantling lobbyists/corruption, and how he was a fighter for the little guy. When he started talking about Washington cocktail parties and how people like his Dad were left out of the system, it gave me chills.

Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 06:19 AM by Tactical Progressive
Edwards did a good job with his message. Definitely plus.

Obama was somewhat weak, and he doesn't do that great in debates to begin with. He lost some ground.

Richardson was boring. He should be out soon.

Hillary did everything she had to do and then some. She shone, especially on the tough questions.

38. Reminds me of the old Lenny Bruce bit
The one where he says that no matter what happens, a candidate's supporters will say their guy won the debate.

I'm too lazy to look it up but here's a paraphrase:

A guy could say 'Don't vote for me. I would be the worst possible choice. I will do terrible things to the country if I'm elected.'

And his supporters would react by saying: Ya gotta love the guy's honesty.
