If you're NOT voting for the Dem nominee in the GE, I assume you won't be on DU dissing him/her!
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 09:46 PM by RiverStone
I am surprised to see the result's of 11 Bravo's DU poll:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2612176&mesg_id=2612176

WTF?! About 45% of DUers won't vote DEM in the General if candidate A, B, or C is nominated?!

Believe me, I really hope Hillary is not our nominee - but if she is, she has my vote. Why?

Because I don't want a right wing SCOTUS for the next generation!
Because I don't want more religion shoved into my government, schools, and home!
Because I don't want women to lose their right to reproductive freedom!
Because I don't want billions of dollars more spent to war monger, invade, control, or surge into other sovereign nations!
Because I don't want to see our country surrounded by a wall and barbed wire!
Because I don't want our privacy rights eroded to the point where we have no privacy!
Because I don't want my two teenage draft age children subject to being pawns in a reckless and dangerous foreign policy!
Because I don't want to see our planet earth further compromised by polluters, big oil, and corporations that don't give a shit!

After the Democratic Convention in Denver next August, our party will chose a nominee. I will support that nominee!

I respectfully request that if you have no intention of doing the same, please DO NOT WASTE DU BANDWIDTH dissing our party's choice for president in the GE.

I am a Democrat and will be voting that way in the General Election for President! The issues are far too compelling not to!

I don't usually pop in as the spelling Nazi but this one I've got to catch: "You're" not "Your."

9. I'm an old-school teacher
that actually corrects spelling. I kind of insist on students knowing the difference between "you're and "your" -- particularly after the 3rd grade. It's a teacher thing.

"Could care less."

Makes me crazy.

Don't you mean "couldn't care less?"

The you're/your its/it's thing bugs me to no end as well.

But I don't correct spelling here. Not my job.

37. I'm also seeing a lot of "of" used when they mean "have"
"I would of gone there," that kind of thing.

Its and it's bothers me, but it's the kind of mistake that's easier to do than you're and your.

8. These are the reasons I became a Democrat
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 09:54 PM by Xipe Totec
when Regan was nominated in the 1980 Republican primaries.

These are the reasons I am still a Democrat.

So long as the Democratic platform stands for these principled values, I will remain a Democrat.

12. Sorry, but...
...until one of our candidates wraps up the nomination, it is my right and duty as a Democrat to campaign for whoever I believe would be the best choice.

If, at that time, I find that I cannot in good conscience vote for our nominee, I'll restrict myself to non-political areas (the Lounge, DU Groups) until the election is over, and refrain from posting anything critical of that nominee, either on DU or elsewhere.

But, until then, I have every right to advocate for a preferred candidate, and/or urge my fellow party members to not choose a candidate who I may see as leading our party "off the cliff."

Go for it! I don't want Hillary and have posted more then once she is beholden to the corporations/DLC etc. In fact, I think she would lose in the GE; I think either Edwards or Obama could win. Dissing our opponents during the primaries is called Democracy. My lean is Edwards because I think he has the best chance to WIN across regions and socio-economic groups.

Though like I said, I'm voting Dem regardless - even DLC Hillary is better than any rethug.

If, at that time, I find that I cannot in good conscience vote for our nominee, I'll restrict myself to non-political areas (the Lounge, DU Groups) until the election is over, and refrain from posting anything critical of that nominee, either on DU or elsewhere.

Thanks! I may not like your choice to NOT participate, but I appreciate your integrity! Your self-imposed restrictions make total sense (though lets hope you don't have to go there).

But, until then, I have every right to advocate for a preferred candidate, and/or urge my fellow party members to not choose a candidate who I may see as leading our party "off the cliff."

Of course! Like I said in the OP, I was referring to AFTER the convention.

peace~:)

14. You are correct
We are a group of people who are supposed to help Dems get elected. Even if teh Dem candidate is not our first choice I assume we could all agree it will be better than anyone on the Republican side. I look at voting as trying to put the person in office that will serve the best. I believe in most cases the Dem candidate can do just that.

Not that I would withhold my vote or anything but.. are you saying those people should leave.. keep their mouths shut or.. because right now I'm kinda feelin that whole Anakin / Ben "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy!" type thing ;).

In any case, I wouldn't overly worry about those poll numbers.. perceptions will change once it gets down the road.

25. Ironically, I think voting for Hillary is both...
naive and very gullible. She is the most rethuglican-like of any of our Dem candidates.

So we disagree on our primary candidate. No problem there.

But for reason's I already mentioned; ANY of our candidates will do our country and children better then ANY rethug. It may be a matter of degrees, but it is without any doubt in this voters mind the reason I'll be voting for Obama, Edwards, or Clinton (though I HOPE it's John!).

Interesting. The opposite is true for me. I can barely tell them apart.

But as I said, I'll be voting for the nominee, even if the nominee is a bag of hammers. It's either that or help the GOP by abstaining.

31. I'll be voting for the nominee.
Sitting it out is no better than a vote for the GOP. There's no way I'm going to help the GOP by abstaining.

I'm no big fan of Hillary or Obama, but you can bet I'll be voting for either of them if they are the nominee - and I'll be doing so gladly. Why? Consider the alternative.

Principles are very important. But so is pragmatism. We can't always have what we really want in life. If we can't have what we really want, why not at least make sure we don't end up with a steaming platter of shit? In my view, refusing to look out for our own best interests "on principle" is both childish and self-destructive.

Yeah, this is coming from a Kucinich supporter. Go figure, eh? :)

32. I'll make my final decision a few days before the GE because we have mail in ballots.
And, since I have the quaint notion that my vote is mine to cast as I please, I will reserve that right until I cast my ballot.

I will vote for the candidate that I see as the most progressive candidate on the ballot, or use my pen to write one in.
