NYT: Israeli security officials say Palestinian militants from Gaza firing Iranian made missiles

Thousands of short-range homemade rockets and mortar shells have been fired by Palestinian militants at Israel in the past few years, but the one that fell in an open field in northern Ashkelon on Thursday traveled more than 10 miles, the farthest landing from Gaza.

There have been a few cases of militants from Gaza firing old, 122-millimeter Katyushas that were probably manufactured in the Eastern bloc and smuggled into Gaza. But the rocket that landed Thursday in the city of 120,000 people was different, said Micky Rosenfeld, an Israeli police spokesman.

The 122-millimeter rocket was “not like something we’ve seen before” out of Gaza, he said.

The Israeli security officials confirmed that it was Iranian-made, speaking on the condition of anonymity, because of the delicacy of the issue. The Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot on Sunday cited unidentified Israeli security officials saying that the rocket had been smuggled to Gaza from Egypt by sea.

2nd - Iranian ships "harass" American Navy in straights of hormuz
3rd - Iranian weapons are what has killed most Americans in Iraq
4th - Iranian weapons are being used by Hamas to bomb Israel
