Don't Be An Asshole

Feminists, Environmentalists, Leftists, Liberals, Progressives... and any other label you want to attach to your pet ideology. Simply by adopting a label, we're setting ourselves apart from the mainstream - and assuming the whole point of a cause is to gain mainstream acceptance, wouldn't it be better to shed the labels and take a more common sense approach.

How about this for a cause?: DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE

For feminism: Don't be an asshole to women.
Environmentalism: Don't be an asshole to the environment.

Don't be an asshole to poor people, gay people, black people, non-citizens, Muslims, working people, sick people. JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE.

I think labels can be pretty powerful, and in a good way too... but I like the idea of "don't be an asshole."

I've always felt the same way about people who complain about having to be "politically correct".
