Blu-ray supporters scent victory (BBC) {excellent quote!}

The backers of the Blu-ray high definition DVD system are predicting victory in the format wars with HD DVD.

The two rival camps have divided consumers since the two incompatible systems were launched.

But Blu-ray supporters are touting the decision by Warner Bros to shift allegiance as a tipping point.

Howard Stringer, chief executive of Sony, the creators of Blu-ray, was also unwilling to declare outright victory.

"I never put up banners that say 'Mission Accomplished'," he said.

1. Yow!

I've been following the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD situation, and the recent shifts are pretty big.

But until Lucas releases his movies, the format war hasn't been decided. Same with the Lord of the Rings movies. When they pick a side, it should kill the other format dead.

The porn industry has had that kind of control in the past, but I think the fact that so much of that crap has gone online, they might be irrelevant this time.

4. It's over

New Line (LOTR) is now Blu exclusive.

Fox (Star Wars) is Blu exclusive.

Star Wars, however, is controlled by Lucas. However many suspect Lucas would favor Blu. Spielberg, Lucas' good friend, is a Blu supporter and refuses to let Universal release his movies on HD DVD. He's already released on Blu-Ray.
