Ron Paul's racist, homophobic, conspiratorial newsletters
Some sick selections from a person Dennis Kucinich would consider as a running mate...

On the LA riots... "Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks three days after rioting began. ... What if the checks had never arrived? No doubt the blacks would have fully privatized the welfare state through continued looting. But they were paid off and the violence subsided."

Paul ridicules black activists, led by Al Sharpton, for demonstrating at the Statue of Liberty in favor of renaming New York City after Martin Luther King. The newsletter suggests that "Welfaria," "Zooville," "Rapetown," "Dirtburg," and "Lazyopolis" would be better alternatives--and Paul says, "Next time, hold that demonstration at a food stamp bureau or a crack house."

"I miss the closet. Homosexuals, not to speak of the rest of society, were far better off when social pressure forced them to hide their activities."

"gays in San Francisco do not obey the dictates of good sense... these men don't really see a reason to live past their fifties. They are not married, they have no children, and their lives are centered on new sexual partners." Also, "they enjoy the attention and pity that comes with being sick."

"I've been told not to talk, but these stooges don't scare me. Threats or no threats, I've laid bare the coming race war in our big cities. The federal-homosexual cover-up on AIDS (my training as a physician helps me see through this one.) The Bohemian Grove--perverted, pagan playground of the powerful. Skull & Bones: the demonic fraternity that includes George Bush and leftist Senator John Kerry, Congress's Mr. New Money. The Israeli lobby, which plays Congress like a cheap harmonica."

14. Well, Let's Not Get Nuts, Now!
Paul is a troglodyte who must have cheated his way through med school. But, he makes Huckabee look good??? Good???

Perhaps, "less bad"?

11. The thing that makes this interesting to DU, IMO, is the DK angle.
The fact that Kucinich was taken in by Ron Paul is an indicator of DK's naivete (or stupidity.)

12. Ron Paul's response to the New Republic article.
Edited on Thu Jan-10-08 11:42 AM by robcon
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In response to an article published by The New Republic, Ron Paul issued the following statement:

“The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

“In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person's character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: ‘I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It's once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

1. At least he responded.

2. This garbage went out under his name a long time ago. He did nothing to stop it - until now, when he 'running' for president.

edit: add link

:nopity:

The names of the newsletters are: Ron Paul's Freedom Report, Ron Paul Political Report, The Ron Paul Survival Report, and The Ron Paul Investment Letter

He is clearly responsible for what has been published under his name. If he genuinely found it repugnant, he would not have permitted it to go on, repeatedly, for so long.

My name isn't even on this website, but I cannot help but feel responsible for the things that get posted here. And this is a discussion forum where it is very difficult to enforce standards on the content. His were published newsletters; exercising editorial control would not be that hard. Just tell your damn editors to cut the bigoted crap before it gets published!

17. Here is a link to 18 of these newsletters - 1978 - 1975
His bigotry spans more time than he would like people to believe He was only in congress for a fraction of the time the newsletter was printed.

19. "He is clearly responsible

His weak attempt to now distance himself from this vile crap will only be defended
by those who agree with what was published.
