McCain: "I will never, ever allow this nation to surrender"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/01/10/wuspols510.xml

John McCain paints himself as a war president

John McCain burnished his credentials as a potential commander-in-chief of a nation at war on the latest stage of his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Speaking at military college in South Carolina and flanked by rows students in uniform, the former naval pilot and Vietnam War hero said the US must keep its troops in Iraq until al-Qa'eda is defeated.

He recalled meeting the mother of a young soldier killed near Baghdad who pleaded with him not to let her son's death be in vain.

"I told her: 'I will never, ever allow this nation to surrender'. We will never surrender, they will," he said, to thunderous applause.

4. Even if it takes 1,000 years...
the honest thing to have done would be to tell that mother that her son did die in vain John. Nothing will EVER change that.

7. Too late dude
It's already surrendered to the corporations and the Saudis.

It's surrendered its manufacturing base to Asia.

It's in the process of surrendering its technological advantage to India.

Its military edge is illusionary because it isn't able to fight 21st century wars.

You can knock of the macho posturing asswipe - it's too fuckin late already.

Now that's something to be proud of, John.

A piece of shit laying in a field has more compassion than John McCain does.

12. McCain, read a dozen books on Vietnam
since you missed what the hell was going on while you were a POW.
After you understand vietnam, get back to me and I'll give you reading list on the middle east...
then a reading list on military tactics.

Because you fail to understand government mentality, the geography and its history, and military strategy.

14. I wasn't really aware we were at war.
I mean, think about it. A "War" on Iraq was never really DECLARED, per se . . . we just went over and bombed the shit out of a sovereign nation that did nothing to a single American citizen at that point. I'm not really seeing how "Surrendering" something is possible when a) you attacked a nation aggressively without provocation, not the other way around and b) a "win" or a "loss" cannot really be defined, much less achieved. Anyone who thinks the answer is "Pro-western Democratic Middle East" is ignorant of thousands of years of culture, tradition and religion.

16. The GOP version of foreign policy *IS* a surrender.
Policies that create terrorists, that make the ME less stable, that divide us from our friends & unite our enemies are all antithetical the goals of peace & security.

When GOPers say shit like this, bin Laden smiles.

17. psychologically needs to justify having been tortured for a bunch of years
he is definitely still fighting the vietnam war and trying to justify his having been tortured for a bunch of years for another war that was not needed and provoked by the west - we continue to fight wars the usa caused.

25. that's a clever phrase signifying nothing, but the electorate will eat it up...the DEMS should have
latched onto it long ago. No one(well maybe Nader) would surrender the nation...its a given. A Dem could say that even the most anti-war fringer and not in any way be 'selling out'. Yet to Floyd and Zelda on that pig farm it has great meaning! and they vote in huge numbers...but too late now, one more bullet for McCaine to use against the Dems in the Fall. He remains the single most dangerous threat to a Democratic win in November. And he will too, if we follow the paths Dems have all to often followed in the past.

29. who the hell would we be surrendering to?
No one declared war on us, we haven't declared war on any country. The u. s. of a. currently occupies another country for some ungodly reason that no one with a few braincells can understand, but we have no one to surrender to. he's as big an asshat as the current asshat.

31. That's the problem with this whole "War on Terror".
Who exactly is "they"? Terrorism is a tactic, not an enemy. This so called "war" can never be won until the US ceases imperialism in the Middle East.
