We’re eating our own babies
Ronald Reagan was a dunce who said one brilliant thing: “Thou shall not speak ill of a fellow Republican.” His advice has held together the various groups that make up their miserable party for almost three decades.

We, on the other hand, are eating our own babies. There is no Democratic politician, talk-show host, pundit or columnist that has not been attacked here on DU -- not to mention the attacks that DUers are making upon each other on far, far too many threads.

Although I am an Edwards supporter, I have never posted to a thread that was attacking Hillary, or Obama, or Kucinich, or Randi Rhodes, or any DUer because of who he or she is or is not backing.

Bush is so universally hated that there’s no reason that we shouldn’t win this year’s election in the biggest landslide in American history –- not just the presidency, but huge majorities in the Senate and House. But at this rate, we just might blow it. It’s past time that every DUer grasped the simple fact that “WE” are not the enemy. The Republicans are.

I’m not foolish enough to believe that my comments here will put an end to the ugly war among ourselves currently underway, but it’s worth a try. My plea to my fellow DUers is to please refrain from attacking our candidates and each other. Set your sights on the Republicans and attack their party, their candidates, their so-called ideas, their lying, their hatred, and everything they stand for.

3. I don't know - whatever punishment we we give to our candidate pales in comparison
to what the Republicans are going to do to him or her.

Another question might be when Hannity and his ilk are bringing up Hillary's Vince Foster or Obama's Madrass or Edward's Haircuts or Kucinich's Alien Encounter, are we going to stand up for them, or sit back, fold our arms and say "That's what they get for knocking off my candidate."

6. There's nothing wrong with our having differences with each other.
However, I was partially referring to the amount of pure venom I've seen DUers throwing at each other.

10. We are very passionate people. That's why we spend some
of our spare time here. Passion is a volatile thing.

I pledge to support our nominee no matter who she is. In the meantime, I support Edwards.

11. Refusing to speak ill of their own brought a lot of power to the puke party.
It is also the reason that they got so bad.

Every party needs a little house-cleaning from time to time, and if you refuse to see the dirt then it just gets worse and worse.

A Dem party full of sell-outs and appeasers won't help us -- won't save our Constitution.

We need to unite behind our causes, but we'll turn into another bunch of pukes if we make it a rule not to criticize any Dem.

This is not directed to any particular candidate's supporters.

12. I agree that "Every party needs a little house-cleaning from time to time..."
However, what we could use right now, is a little more unity.

Of course there are many Dem congresspeople we want to see go. And I believe that some of them will be thrown out this year by more liberal Dems who are challenging them.

But if we really want to save our Constitution, we must, must get one of our current candidates into the White House. And we're not going to get it done by attacking each other day in and day out.

13. I agree that we must get a Dem in the White House.
But I'm very concerned that some of the current candidates won't undo the damage to the constitution, the culture, or the treasury -- damaged via huge handouts to anyone connected with the military-industrial complex -- if they get elected.

Four years of a Dem acting like a pug will not only be a disaster, but it will cement the notion in everyone's head that there's no difference between the parties and therefore no way of ever fixing anything.

While it's true that post-nomination bickering won't help us, I don't see any way of trying to select the best candidate in the first place without criticism of the others. Those who just say, "mine's the best, mine's the best, he/she will save us all," don't really add anything substantial to the process.

14. It's a campaign, campaigns are street brawls, or at least they should be

stop trying to make this an elementary school class president election.
