Richardson as Clinton's VP?
Just saw Matthews suggest it on Hardball. I think it would be an excellent idea.

2. I think Richardson finds it an interesting idea too...
Yesterday he was on CNN with Wolf, praising each candidate individually as he did today and talking about how important the Western states are now. Smart to keep that front and center!

3. The entire purpose of his campaign was to audition for the VP spot.
And I think he did a pretty good job.

4. Matthews is an idiot. Please turn your TV off
because Richardson has said repeatedly he would rather serve his next two years as governor than run in the relatively useless #2 slot and people who quote Matthews suggesting otherwise don't sound any brighter than Matthews is.

I think the job that might tempt Richardson is SOS.

say Richardson will be on the ticket as VP.

11. How rude.
No matter who suggested it I think it's an exciting idea. I'll attempt to be "brighter" in future posts.

5. Bad choice

Richardson does not have a good public persona. He doesn't present well. I could see him in a cabinet post; I just don't want to see him in too public a position.

12. Yeah, I thought of that.
In the VP debates, he would not do well, unless he was coached intensively. If there were no more cammpaigning, he would be good.

16. I Disagree
Richardson may be about as inspiring as cardboard as a public speaker, but he brings a lot to the ticket as a VP candidate.

Adding Richardson could help appeal to two very important demographics - Hispanics and Westerners. The west is still very much a swing region, so it would work a lot better than say, adding some one from the Southeast to help in the South (most of which has been solidly red).

6. I think that's the likely ticket in November
It was a not very well kept secret Richardson was running for VP, not president.

Richardson on the ticket will lock down the Hispanic vote and increase Hispanic turnout tremendously.

7. I predicted this as the ticket months ago and still think it will be the ticket
You do better choosing someone who was not that involved in the primary campaigns.

13. Won't help with the crucial Western electoral votes...
I'll bet Richardson's on the short list of all three candidates. He brings the West and Hispanics.

19. so then is the ticket called Clinton/Richardson
or "Hillary and Bill"?

When I watched a debate with five candidates - Richardson, Edwards, Clinton, Dodd, and Biden, Richardson was the one I liked least. Having him on the ticket certainly would not endear me to Clinton.

14. She would almost certainly have to pick Obama
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 07:41 PM by WI_DEM
If AA get their hopes up with Obama and he's not on the ticket I think that could dampen turnout among our most loyal base and we would need them to turn out to win in November.

17. Obama Would Be A Mistake
sure he's inspiring, but picking an inspiring running mate to offset a more reserved Presidential candidate didn't work so well in 2004.

The African Americans like the Clintons, they aren't going to turn away based on her choice of running mate, unless she picks some one who is seen as a bigot.

And picking him as running mate could just as easily backfire if it is seen as a black man subordinate to a white woman.

Who knows.

Hillary as President would not.
