9. He had an 'expert' on examining the caucus, primary, and beyond;
second half was about race relations in this country.

7. 'Interesting' being the operative word. Mulling also, but not really.
He sets him up for failure imo.

'bargainers' and 'challengers'. Obama's a bargainer and Steele thinks that bargainers can only go so far, until they have to get specific. Then the wheels fall off the cart.

"There's no indication he even knows where he wants to take the country"--Steele.

14. "The job of the collective is to produce individuals."
I love that line by Shelby Steele. (And I had to type it before I forgot it.)

That was a great Journal (but then, they usually are).

In the first segment, I thought Kathleen Hall Jamieson made some very good observations about the media and politics, especially when she pointed out how the media manipulates things so much where the candidates are concerned (and where we're concerned, too). I get so pissed off at how we're being played by the media where the election is concerned. They make a huge deal about of Hilary (not) crying, whether it was genuine or not, etc. WHY? WHO THE FUCK CARES IF SHE GOT A LITTLE MISTY EYED? One thing I wish she had pointed out is how, IMHO, one of the reasons Hilary was piled on about that, and the Mittster and others aren't when they actually CRY, is because she's a woman. Hilary is not my first choice in candidates, but that whole thing really made me mad, and I wish Ms. Jamieson had also said something about that.

The segment with Shelby Steele was also extremely interesting, as were my changing reactions to what he was saying. I have to confess that at times, I felt defensive, when he was talking about how some black people automatically assume that whites are racist, but on the other hand, I can also agree with that statement. (And yes, I'm white, if anyone hadn't figured that out from what I just said.) I really liked what he had to say about the masks, and the chip on the shoulder, and how for him, he finally got tired of the whole thing, and stopped. We have, unfortunately, still a huge issue with race in this country, regardless of what race you are; it's an issue that, as Bill Moyers said, is ON the table, but also UNDER it. And how both of them said they'd rather be at a place where the things that are important are what people think about other things besides race (if an when race is not an issue any more).

I'm sure I will watch this again, because there was so much content in both segments.
