"Sliming Obama" (seven-page article debunking the anti-Obama e-mails)

Sliming Obama: Dueling chain e-mails claim he's a radical Muslim or a "racist" Christian. Both can't be right. We find both are false.

One claims that Obama is "certainly a racist" by virtue of belonging to Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, which it says "will accept only black parishoners" and espouses a commitment to Africa. Actually, a white theology professor says he's been "welcomed enthusiastically" at the church, as have other non-blacks.

Another e-mail claims that Obama "is a Muslim," attended a "Wahabi" school in Indonesia, took his Senate oath on the Koran, refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and is part of an Islamic plot to take over the U.S. Each of these statements is false.

These false appeals to bigotry and fear remind us of the infamous whispering campaign of eight years ago, when anonymous messages just before the South Carolina primary falsely accused Republican candidate John McCain of fathering an illegitimate child by a black woman.>>>>>

(Apologies if this has already been posted... I thought a link to this article might be a good response for those who receive these idiotic e-mails. It is pretty thorough, which could be a problem since most of those forwarding the e-mails likely have the attention span of a gnat.)

I know this article is long, but I thought it might be useful for anyone who has received either of those e-mails.

reads anything anymore... too easy to just blast out those bullshit emails, but this needs to be available for DUers to "Reply All" when they get one of those Fwd:Fwd:Fwd: Fwd: "Obama is the Antichrist" emails.

A friend of mine just forwarded me one of these emails, and I was able to send her the link to the article instead of explaining all on my own why it was BS!

I'm always surprised at how many people seem to have no problem forwarding this stuff on w/o even checking to see how blatantly false some of the claims in them are.

days and was trying to figure out how to respond besides saying "THAT'S COMPLETE HORSESHIT!" This is a much better response.
