Poll question: Who do you figure is Exxon/Mobil's choice for the Republican nominee?
They do have a little money available to try to affect the outcome. (No, I'm not saying, "It's hopeless; give up"; just want to help better identify the enemy.)

I earlier asked whom was our dream nominee and Huckster ran away with it:

2. I went with Giuliani
Only because he is like Bush squared.
Could be Romney or Thompson also.
I don't think it's McCain or Huckabee because they seem to acknowledge global warming.

3. I voted Romney because it seems Giuliani has imploded and
is probably finished. I think McCain is too much of a maverick to ever be the "establishment" candidate for the repubs, but he seems to be doing well in the polling in the upcoming states. The establishmet might just have to learn to live with McCain but my money is still on Romney being their first choice. Romney has shown himself willing to take any position on an issue that can work to his advantage in the party, just the kind of man ExxonMobil can do business with.

4. Rudy is probably the most corruptible of the gang. He's authoritarian, has
a sense of entitlement, and has little loyalty to those who have entrusted him.

5. i'm sure the oil companies do not have to buy a candidate
I am sure all the candidates will love to take big oil's money in exchange for special privillage, legislation and a general get out of jail free card. see repubs do not discriminate when it comes to where the money comes from.

8. McCain.
They'll back McCain, now. I can't remember where I heard it, but if I was hearing correctly some prominent Republicans sent a letter indicating their support a few days ago. Believe or not, the guy has a good shot at winning. People who are fortunate enough to not encounter troglodytes on a daily basis may think that pubs are cooked this election. Not true, they're aren't as happy with their candidates as Dems, but some scenarios could be favorable to them.

McCain against Hillary, with the help of the MSM and the nutter right, that would not be a Dem lock by any means. The nutjobs would make it a point to vote against Hillary, whereas they wouldn't care as much with some of the others.

13. Well, McCain is already bought and paid for.
The others, I'm sure, would roll over for money of any sort, but they don't have the history of utter whoredom on the national level that my man McCain can claim. He's safe--a man who isn't afraid to use the word "change" while ensuring that neither he nor anyone else can actually effect any. Name a big pocket, you'll find him already in it.

16. (I actually think it's Huckabee, but obviously I'm alone in this opinion)
Suspect that oil moneys flowing to Giuliani were due to him being the perceived front-runner. I mean if Thompson had a chance they would be all over him to try to create a new Reagan; the complete lack of charisma (or a clue) factor probably impedes him though. I agree with the assessments of McCain upthread (except for the maverick part).

17. The chance of a Repug being elected are slim and none. So they at least have to have
a candidate that is remotely credible. McCain fits the bill. The rest are bozos.

Huckabee is cause for concern for them, but not panic.
