Mike McConnell -Water-boarding 'would be torture'
if he were subjected to it.

Mr McConnell said it would also be torture if water-boarding, which involves simulated drowning, resulted in water entering a detainee's lungs.

He told the New Yorker there would be a "huge penalty" for anyone using it if it was ever determined to be torture.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7185648.stm

"If I had water draining into my nose, oh God, I just can't imagine how painful!" he told the magazine.

"Whether it's torture by anybody else's definition, for me it would be torture."

Mr McConnell said the legal test for torture should be "pretty simple".

"Is it excruciatingly painful to the point of forcing someone to say something because of the pain?" he added.

1. Anybody who is not an idiot or a sadist knows it's torture
It's deplorable that we do this crap, then deny that it's torture.

4. I agree
I don't care what sort of semantic backflips they go through to try to deny reality. It is torture and they authorized it. There's no excuse for it.

5. No "if" to it. Water-boarding IS torture
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 07:24 AM by Solly Mack
It's just A-OK these days for government officials to admit the US government water-boards...as long as they also pretend it isn't torture or that it's a debatable issue

Paying lip-service to outrage in an attempt to cover their own asses
