Seems like some are at war against women and children...
and a lot of them family...

What is it? Maybe there isn't a huge increase in the violence and it just seems that way to me.

A GA man kills female hiker...

A LA man throws his four children off a bridge...

A FL kills daughter because he wanted a boy...

A TX man sodomizes step-son....

A DC mother kills her four daughters....

A OH man stabs his wife and torches her and his four children....

A SD man strangles/stabs/torches his two step-daughters....

A NC man kills his rape victim and his unborn child....

I think there may be more but these are the ones I thought of just now!!!

While all of these are disturbing, I am very disturbed by what I have read about Maria Frances Lauterbach. It seems painfully obvious to me that the Marines must believe that "boys will be boys".

Everything I have read seems to have the underlying tone that just really bothers me. However, there are two things I am most bothered with.

1) The quotes about how the suspect was not in custody for the rape, nor was he considered a flight risk, because there seemed to be a "friendly" relationship. :wtf: What a bunch of bs! I bet they were forcing her to continue working with him. What....just because she hadn't sliced his balls off they construed the relationship to be "friendly". I certainly will keep this in mind. If ever I am faced with waiting for a trial to punish my rapist, I will want to make sure I take appropriate action so there is no mistake that I am friendly. I think slicing them off would send that message.

2) In the same vein, everything is written in what seems to be a skewed way...almost as if trying to shine a better light on the suspect. Specifically, there was as article yesterday identifying him as her comrade. Comrade???? Ok, technically perhaps he is, but I don't believe that is an appropriate adjective to describe her accused rapist.

and so much more bothers me....that poor woman....

2. Violence always rises when
you feel like you are backed into a corner. People (in general) will strike out at the easiest target, which is women and children. It is a form of mental illness of the desperate. We have all heard of people who are killed from trying to save a drowning person. The person is in panic mode and will strike out at the person who is trying to save them, and accidentally drowning them too. There are a lot of people who are in a place where they feel like they are drowning but here on land. That panic sends them into a form of mental illness which will cause them to hurt people, because in some twisted way that death or hurt will stop the drowning, or so they think. At least that is what I have observed.

3. From what I heard
she was working right next to him, and being harrassed all around, while she was 8 months pregnant. Just horrendous.

4. Anecdotal evidence
To the point raised by your headline:

While each incident you listed is horrible, each is only a single incident that the media chooses to spotlight. Last year, there were over 300 murders just in Philadelphia (down slightly from the previous year, I think), each one horrible in its own way.

Meanwhile murders are down in some places, up in others. What's the overall statistic? Is the teevee bothering to tell us that?

So, I don't know if there is a "war against women and children" or at any rate, if it's worse than it's ever been. I think you have to be careful at reacting to what the media chooses to portray, because those choices are all based on their expectation of a bottom line (what will get viewers to watch), and bear no relation to accurately informing their viewers or putting threats into perspective.

As for the Marine not being in custody, that sounds really stupid, but everyone makes a dumb mistake at their job sooner or later. Maybe some attitudes need to be revised in the Military Police ranks so that they make fewer mistakes like that, but I won't read anything else into it at this point.
