Taking some time off of DU to help manage a political campaign
I'm working on the campaign of a friend who is running for a non-partisan public office here in San Diego. My main functions will be managing intelligence and security for our committee. We had our first campaign strategy meeting Friday night, and all of our official papers will be filed by end of day Monday.

This, my first foray in to serious politics, will be taking up a lot of the time I am accustomed to spending on more frivolous activities like sparring with quasi-anonymous strangers on the Web. I'm very excited about this. It promises to be both fun and demanding. We've already been mentioned on local talk radio and written up in the newspaper. It's really happening.

I'll check in from tome to time, but reading DU can no longer be a daily activity for me.

Please try to be civil to each other even when you find deep disagreement among yourselves. Criticism of Democratic candidates for President is not only a reasonable thing to do, it's essential that we air and understand their weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Take care, my brethren and cistern of DU!

6. This defies your name here...
... cause I'm sure there will be no "slackin" in the pursuit of your goals.

It would be great if you could journal from time to time regarding the realities of "inside the campaign trail". Lots of times I believe people are quick to assume the reason a candidate might refrain from saying "this" or "that" during their stump speech, or in trying to gain endorsement from a particular group.

I'm sure it'll add to my understanding. Good luck :hi:
