Poll question: Would you want the next president to be more of a manager or more of a visionary?
I see a manager as someone who can fix the problems that Bush has gotten us into, keep us on a steady path with intelligence and firm understanding of economics, world affairs, energy and the environment, national security, and the Constitution. Someone who is NOT going to make any stupid mistakes while we heal.

I see a visionary as someone who can inspire and lead us, perhaps taking us in bold, new directions. Someone who may take risks with the reward being a greater America than we have ever seen. Someone who might upset the status quo and rattle a few cages, not afraid to take on convention.

1. we need someone who offers a reason why we need to fix the problems
they have to articulate the reasons not just offer the solutions

2. I'll settle for someone with a modicum of sanity and a dose of humility.
Qualities rarely found in politicians.

3. Problem is......

with 2 wars on the go and a big recession about to whallop, do I really want Obama training on the job like Bush did.

At least with Hillary in the WH, when the shit really hits the fan, she can get good ear advice from a certain Bill Clinton. They both know how it all operates.

8. Are you saying that Bill Clinton or Wes Clark or others would refuse to offer advice
to Obama or Edwards were they in the white house instead of HRC?

4. We've had plenty of managers. We need a visionary.
Managers just keep to the status quo, usually. These are people who have come up through the ranks and who respect those ranks. We need someone who can take our country in a new direction, who can start a three-pronged Manhattan-level project to tackle sustainable energy/environmental cleanup, education, and a national health care plan. We have all the solutions within our own country, but it's going to take someone who can really see the vision and show it to the rest of us, convincing Republicans to beat their swords into plowshares and join in to get it done.

6. I want a visionary
because all of our problems are coming from inside the box.

Oil, wars, colonialism, slavery, despotism, torture, lawlessness...

All of these problems have been staples of history, and need to be dealt by offering systems that don't require such behavior.

The manager knows how to keep the ship afloat while keeping it on the same course. The visionary can take the ship to new places and try new things, and that's what we need, IMO.

7. A very good question.
Although I am by nature a manager, I think we need more of a visionary - provided (s)he is pragmatic enough to hire competent managers.

9. When I was kid John Kennedy had a vision of landing a man on the moon!
At that time I thought there was nothing the United states couldn't do when we set our goals!

10. How about one that is
actually and verifiably ELECTED legally and honestly? Not installed or manipulated into office like someone we all know.

13. I want both.
A manager is needed to take care of the US. A visionary is needed to find a way out of this awful mess that * got us into.

14. Good question.
As a general tule, most visionary leaders are followed by a manager; the opposite can happen, but is not nearly as likely.

I have not decided who I will vote for in the primary, hence I can say that although I do think about the issues put forth in your question, I have not reached one answer.

15. I want someone who's both
I want someone who can envision George W. Bush boiling sheets at the Terre Haute federal pen for the rest of his life, and who can manage to make it happen.

I want someone who can envision an America who is the leader of the world again, and who can manage to make that happen.

I want someone who can envision the day when every American not only has health insurance but can afford the deductibles and co-pays, and who can manage to make it happen.

The president should envision an America where every American who wants a job has a good one, and who can manage to create the environment necessary to make it happen.

Who can envision the day when no child ever has to lose her favorite doll because it's got enough lead in it to make a battery, thanks to the Chinese, and who can manage to halt all Chinese imports until they fix the lead paint problems, the product adulteration problems and the sweatshop problems.

17. Good question
I can see advantages to either. I think you could say that Bush had been a visionary, but a very negative one. Maybe we need someone who would just get our economy back on track, stop the imperialism, and restore our standing in the world. Bush is going to leave the next president with so much shit to deal with that I'd almost be happy with someone who could just stop the bleeding.
