Florida's primary will be fun..
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 08:05 PM by SoCalDem
Dems are technically NOT participating, but their names are ALL on the ballots.

You KNOW people will vote..and what a hoot it would be to see huge turn outs and not a penny was spent , not a minute spent campaigning there..

Perhaps this might be a harbinger of things to come.. a wake up to candidates..just maybe they can see that BIG money may not be all that necessary..

I am HOPING there's a huge turn out, for just this reason..

1. It will be interesting to see
what the tallies are, and what the turnout is. I would hope that Dems would come out, if only to make a statement of their disgust of Bushco.

2. There will be other items on the ballot beside the primary
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 08:09 PM by Freddie Stubbs
There is a state constitutional amendment regarding property taxes which will be on the ballot, and the state's largest county will also be having a referendum regarding slot machines at parimutuel facilities.

3. It may be fun for you, but I have been disenfranchised by my own
state party. It's not fun, but you know, I now know what voter suppression and caging feels like.

7. When push comes to shove, they WILL allow the delegates
just wait & see.. This is a "threat" to them..to behave and go along with the "party".. I canot see either side not wanting those delegates to count.

12. No, it will not happen. The rooms have been cancelled. And the
State Party did act like a bunch of lawless Republicans. All so Sen Bill Nelson and Rep Alyce Hastee could wear their "Screw Dean" buttons all over south Florida. That was before they lost the lawsuit.

19. While I agree that having the independents in NH select the
Democratic candidate is bogus, the primary schedule had already been decided. They could have fought to change that at the time rather than act like a bunch of lawless Republicans.

I have a whole new view on voter suppression now.

15. You don't get it. We don't have a voice in choosing.
That is what it was all about. To get the media attention early on. They did not care whether our votes counted or not.

you get a crick in your neck...and their delegates will count.

5. no, I think they'll vote their conscience
being a Florida voter I think there's a lot of investigation of all the candidates viewpoints/positions/experience. Your post doesn't make much sense.

6. Who will get these "conscience" voters?
And what about voting for the name people recognize most doesn't make any sense? Why do you think Lieberman led the early 2004 polls?

8. State party leaders screwed the voters to get media attention for being BIG
Unfortunately the people of the state have never gotten the truth. They only hear how mean Dean has been to the state. The bloggers have not gotten his back, and they have gone along with the Clinton people who started all this.

I am angry and bitter.

Bill Nelson is glad he sued the DNC...Karen Thurman, chairman, has no regrets at all.

They are happy as bugs in a rug, the two of them. All the others are just grinning from ear to ear.

They are bragging about participation growing, but that is BS. Lee County and Palm Beach County supervisors are expecting lower turnout.

It is alll a crying shame.

And the nerve of the Michigan leaders who support Hillary calling a press conference to shame those who want to vote uncommitted...whining it will hurt Hillary.

Clinton backers argue against 'uncommitted'

I am bitter and angry and have seen the darkest side of my party.

10. my mom lives in Florida, and she is really unhappy
she may not even bother to vote in the primary, seeing as it "doesn't mean anything".

Regardless of whether the DNC will cave or not on seating the delegates, that is the perception Democrats in Florida are left with, that their votes do not count.

IMO, this is a really HUGE mistake on the part of the state party leadership, as it may turn off a lot of people to the Democratic party in Florida, and add to the likelihood of a Repub win in the state in November.

Of course, it definitely seems that those responsible don't really care.

11. The state Dem leaders lied to the state, and they keep on doing it.
They voted for it 115 to 1 and worked with the GOP since early 2006. They should be ashamed.

And the Florida bloggers????? Do not get me started.

18. It's really all symbolic....
My vote in the 2004 Florida primary didn't mean anything. Kerry was the only one left (I voted for Edwards, but since he'd already withdrawn from the race it was pretty pointless). The state party pushed to move it up and refused to compromise because it was so late that it was pointless.

Arguably, the Florida primary will be more influential because of the media it will generate. The only people who are really losing out are the 200 or so individuals who would have gotten to go to Denver. The rest of the voters, same difference.

20. I disagree, respectfully. The people are getting it. The party
brought Dean to Destin to "rake him over the coals." When they found out that the grassroots backed Dean, they raise the price of the tickets so high that the grassroots had to stand outside the restaurant in support of Dean.

Nelson's in DeFuniak Springs on the 15th speaking with his Republican supporters. I am still deciding whether to go and be arrested for being a Democrat.

A pox on Nelson's and Thurman's house!

I am re-registering Independent (and I am a life-long Democrat entering my seventh decade.) And I am citing the Florida Democratic Blue Dog Party as the reason.

In reality that is not very many in such a highly populated area.

23. If you Florida activists dont get out there and
talk up Edwards with signs on cars, in front of stores, and with whatever you can download from the internet, door to door and talking to people about what he stands for....the primary vote is going to go to Hillary -at least in
South Florida - I attend a discussion group of about 200 people - last week with a show of hands, mind you , most of them are really oldsters, the overwhelming vote was for Hillary - then obama , then Edwards - they dont know much about Edwards and one of the two major papers just did a Sunday sandbagging job on him.

On top of that, Obama people have been very active registering college students at FAU and talking up Obama.

So if any of you are near one of the colleges, get over there with pamphlets you can print from your own computer and Edwards signs, Maybe give a talk on Edwards...houseparty?

Also in this county the Democratic Exec Committee seems to have decided it was going to be Hillary, and one of them tried to push through that all delegates would have to vote the way the majority decided which would have been Hillary - fortunately it didnt pass.

So if any of you are in South Florida please e mail me - Planning to do stuff this coming week-end. Edwards may not be able to come here, but no one said citizens can't show their support and solicit votes. "Freedom of speech" you know.
