Teacher Comes Under Fire For Comedy Act
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A local English teacher, who moonlights as a comedian, has come under fire for being too racy.

But many are wondering if her somewhat offensive material that she performs at night is grounds for firing from her day job as a teacher.

Diane Eastman, who has a child at Oak Park High, where Andrea Caspari teaches, said she doesn't think the comedy routine is offensive.

"As long as it's not causing any harm to the students or the faculty. No, I didn't see any (problems)," Eastman said.

10. yes -- we're supposed to huddle alone at home, being prim spinsters ...
Isn't it funny how there's a stereotype of teachers being boring, drab people ... yet anyone who doesn't fit that category (witty, sharp dresser, has a wide range of hobbies and interests) is slammed as being a nutcase and probably not that devoted to teaching anyway?

11. A teacher I work with was working part time at a Pizza Hut in the 70s
and the Pizza Hut sold BEER.

Her superintendent told her to quit that Pizza Hut job or the school district would fire her.

12. Beer! My goodness, we can't have teachers anywhere near alcohol!

Can't risk them suddenly going wild, you know!

6. When I was in Grad School this school law dude named
Bernie Hoffman spoke to us and told us all kinds of true teacher horror stories. One of them was a male teacher that was a stripper on the side. A parent photographed him nude and passed it around the PTA and he was fired. Hoffman said it was ok to fire him because teachers had to live up to a "community standard". I wonder if the same applies in this case.

7. if she agreed to
a conduct clause when hired then she should have known better, if not, then the school board should go pound sand.

9. Oh for heavensake
There's racier stuff than that on prime time TV, and I expect there's raunchier quips than that made by the students every day. For that matter, Shakespeare and other "classic" English writers didn't stint when it came to bawdy humor. I suspect that those who want her fired are the same constipated Puritans that want anything controversial banned from the school curriculum, and are raring to attack the library with a pair of scissors and a Zippo.

I thought Ms. Caspari was a hoot. I expect her students love her for her enthusiasm and sense of humor. It looks like 87% of the folks who responded to that survey agree with me.
