CINCINNATI (AP) -- Magazine and radio ads promoting an herbal tablet billed as a sexual enhancement product for men featured bogus testimonials from customers and phony doctors, a former executive testified at a federal fraud trial against the supplement company.

James Teegarden Jr., former vice president of operations at Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals, said Tuesday that he and others at the company made up much of the content that appeared in Enzyte ads.

"So all this is a fiction?" U.S. District Court Judge S. Arthur Spiegel asked about some of the claims. "That's correct, your honor," Teegarden said.

Teegarden, who has pleaded guilty and is cooperating with prosecutors, said company employees created fictitious doctors to endorse the pills, fabricated a customer-satisfaction survey and made up numbers to back up claims about Enzyte's effectiveness.

Berkeley Nutraceuticals, based in suburban Forest Park, markets a number of products designed to boost energy and manage weight, but its main business is Enzyte, which promises men a bigger penis.

The placebo effect exists. If it works for you, fine. There are ways to maximize the placebo effect. In fact in recent weeks there was a popular book puiblished about the placebo effect and how to maximize it.

My only point is that they never said anything about enlargement, but instead claimed enhancement and nobody can define exactly what enhancement is. Very clever, most people hear/think enlargement, but they never said that. Anybody that believed their claims...
