A 72 year old, recurrent malignant cancer survivor
Without being too macabre, what is his life expectancy?

1. Recurrent melanoma is a big deal, especially at McCain's age.
I don't know if cancer would be a health factor for him, but he acts his age and seems feeble--that will ultimately do him in with voters.

2. He or she will live to at least 72 years of age.
Which is fairly average for men these days (I believe) and possibly a little below average for women. Not bad, not bad at all.

How many more years does this person have? We would need a lot more information to even begin to guess.

If you are talking about, say, the current senator from Arizona perhaps? I don't know enough of the specifics of his cancer case.

3. He's been getting along pretty good for quite a while now...several years
at least.

4. One point is that stress lowers the body's immune system.
rudy911, Old Man fred, and Old Man cain are all cancer survivors. Through the campaign, and if they were to become pres., the stresses would be huge and constant. Anyone of them could easily become sick again.

5. This is true--your immune system is your body's defense against cancer.
I thought Fred was nuts to try to run while he HAS cancer (he's still got it, he's not considered cured as McCain might be). I think McCain has a very strong will, but I wouldn't be surprised if his health and mind failed him in office.

6. It isn't clear...
whether he's actually had recurrent melanoma, or whether he's had multiple skin cancers. The first would usually give a worse prognosis than the second. However, so far as I know, he was last treated in 2002, over 5 years ago; so can probably be considered as cured.

As regards life expectancy at his age, at least according to British statistics, a 70-year-old man can on average expect to live 12 or 13 more years. This doesn't necessarily mean that they'd be healthy and energetic enough to be president throughout that period, however. Reagan survived his presidency by many years, but was apparently medically unfit for office for his last few years in the White House.

8. Since he is a Republican,
we can safely assume it isn't clear because he doesn't want it clear.

He's had them removed three times, so far as I can tell.

10. Reagan was a lot more vigorous before he became president than McCain is now
McCain can barely move. I doubt he would be able to handle the demands of the presidency. In fact, he refused to commit to running for a second term should he win in 08.

7. Don't know about his life expectancy, but he
seems to be getting a bit dotty. Maybe alzheimers or senile demetia creeping in?

9. He started showing signs of dementia
when he groveled at Bush's feet. Before then, it would have to believe his mythology that he was an independent American hero.
