Poll question: "The three of us are here in large measure because his dreams have been realized:"
...

It is Dr. King's birthday. The three of us are here in large measure because his dreams have been realized: you know, John, who is, as we know, a son of a mill worker and, you know, really has become an extraordinary success; Senator Obama, who has such an inspirational and profound story to tell America and the world; I, as a woman who is also beneficiary of the civil rights movement and the women's movement and the human rights movement. And the Democratic Party has always been in the forefront of that.

1. I think more accurate to say
have BEGUN to be realized. I think we still have quite a ways to go with racial/gender equality, but a lot of progress has been made since the '60s.

2. False? So MLK accomplished nothing?
Then why make a holiday of his birthday?

Maybe you're just too young to remember.

3. So you think the Dream has been realized?
Perhaps you're too young to remember.

5. It's hard to say for sure whether she meant that
their presence is in large measure due to his Dream which has been realized, or his Dream has been realized in large measure.

6. She has a hell of a lot of nerve.
Quoting Dr. King here:

"I knew that America would never invest the necessary funds or energies in rehabilitation of its poor so long as adventures like Vietnam continued to draw men and skills and money like some demonic destructive suction tube."

"As I have walked among the desperate, rejected and angry young men I have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problems. I have tried to offer them my deepest compassion while maintaining my conviction that social change comes most meaningfully through nonviolent action. But they asked -- and rightly so -- what about Vietnam? They asked if our own nation wasn't using massive doses of violence to solve its problems, to bring about the changes it wanted. Their questions hit home, and I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today -- my own government."

"The Americans are forcing even their friends into becoming their enemies. It is curious that the Americans, who calculate so carefully on the possibilities of military victory, do not realize that in the process they are incurring deep psychological and political defeat. The image of America will never again be the image of revolution, freedom and democracy, but the image of violence and militarism."

She's been actively campaigning and voting for exactly the thing King was fighting against, while enjoying the privileges she personally gained from his struggles. I do not believe that was the dream he was hoping for.
