So after seven years of ignoring the middle class
and poor Herr Bush is about to intervene to alleviate their suffering.

President Bush has decided that an economic stimulus package is needed to help the sagging economy, the White House said Thursday. And Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has endorsed the concept of an economic stimulus package to avert a recession as long as it only temporary and is quickly implemented. Bernanke pledged anew to aggressively slash a key interest rate as needed to bolster the economy.

Bernanke also said increasing the federal budget deficit would make it more difficult to deal with the fiscal challeges of an aging population and rising health care costs.

"The president does believe that over the short term, to deal with the softening of the economy, that some boost is necessary," Bush spokesman Tony Fratto said.

1. 'Softening of the economy'???? How about the total disintegration
of the economy?

2. The irony is breathtaking, isn't it. Now he's going to do something,
when he's been a major part of the problem.

8. Elections are a coming
Rethugs are going to lose
So here's 600 dollars
they know we can't refuse
They've taken their six billion
but now they need our vote
So here's some crumbs you minions
shove that down your throats
Don't complain about the difference
They've bought us out for less
And even if you try that
Bush has already owns the press
:D

4. Same thing as with the previous Bush tax cuts
He gave average Americans a $600 a year tax cut (they got a muffler) while at the same time he gave huge tax cuts to the rich (they got a Rolls).

destroy it. But now that it's an election year, they'll pay some lip service to appearing to help the middle class.

6. Bait and switch. It will not be new money he doles out but a rebate on your taxes
If you spend it, you will just owe more at the end of the year when filing your taxes.

Bait and switch.

12. that wasn't true last time
but the OP seems kinda naive. When Bush says "stimulus package" he is not talking about something that benefits the middle class. He's talking about something that benefits the wealthy and the corporations. Just like his previous dividend tax cut in 2003 was supposed to be about stimulating the economy.

The only question remains is how much Democrats are gonna give to the wealthy because they cave to the pressure of needing to provide a stimulus package. I guarantee Bush is proposing a trickle down stimulus package. Even the DLC when they say 'middle class tax cuts' sounds to me like something that will benefit the $50-100,000 range as opposed to those below the median income who mostly do not pay income taxes.

They're working on a package and checks should be in the mail in 30 days.

Why Dems are going along with this, only they know.

The recession must be imminent.

11. Isn't it odd, how in the last months of his rule, the king has suddenly become worried about the
economy, the federal deficit, the Israel/Palestine issue, and the price of oil? So the plan is to get a 'short term' boost to the economy now, so it will be so much worse when a Democratic president takes over?

17. All those top-% tax cuts were also called short-term stimuli,
and they were also said to benefit the middle class, and they're still in place.

18. This SOB is going to demand his tax cuts be made permanent
in exchange for whatever pittance he offers the middle class. He really should be thrown in jail.
