Huckabee, frying squirrel in a popcorn popper
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 04:05 PM by Blarch
Huckabee spoke to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough from Columbia, SC, saying enthusiastically, "South Carolina's a great place for me. I mean, I know how to eat grits and speak the language. We even know how to talk about eating fried squirrel and stuff like that, so we're on the same wavelength."

"Mika, I bet you never did this," Huckabee went on, addressing Mika Brzezinski. "When I was in college, we used to take a popcorn popper, because that was the only thing they would let us use in the dorm, and we would fry squirrels in a popcorn popper in the dorm room."

Don't knock it 'til you try it.

Here's hoping this doesn't distract from the fact that Huckabubba is a batshit crazy dominionist.

35. Squirrel is also not that bad nutritionally. High in monounsaturates
From all those nuts, I guess.

Of course, you have to weigh that against the lead poisoning we got from eating mouthfuls of grandpa's buckshot.

30. I'd like to fry some of the squirrels here
We have black squirrels and grey ones (which are slightly less obnoxious): I don't know if they're different species or just different colors. The two types seem to act differently. Lately, they've taken to attacking kids. They also ravage my garden: I don't begrudge them a little surplus fruit, but I wish they'd eat the whole thing rather than leaving partially eaten avocados all over the place.

http://www.netspace.org/~dmacks/pub/squirrel.penis.sandwich

(NB: I have no idea who wrote this, so "my father" does not refer to my father)

When my father told me this story I thought it needed to be shared here.
During his years at school, he had a roomate that had absolutely no
consideration for those he lived with and helped himself to everyone elses
property, especially everyone else's food. Anything my father had in his
fridge, in the room, or hidden would be found and eaten by him. In
frustatration my father concieved a plan to punish his roomate. My
father, an avid hunter, went out and shot 12 squirrels and proceeded to
cut out all genitalia from the game he had bagged that afternoon. Back at
the dorm he fried up the genitalia with a little butter and herbs, and
placed it in a roll with some mayo and lettuce. Wrapped in tinfoil and
placed on his desk inside his dorm room, the trap was set. Pretending to
be asleep in his bunk, he watched his roommate entered the room, take the
bait, and proceed to rip into the squirrel penis sandwich made for him.
Half way through the sandwich my father rolled over and asked his roommate what he thought of the sandwich. "Well it's kind of rubbery ..." he said. My father explained the contense causing the roomate to run from the room vomitting and buying his own lunches from then on!

28. Hehehe. That reminds me of a story

my organic chemistry professor told about a guy who was always stealing another guy's milk from the fridge, milk he'd bring from the cafeteria to drink later. (Probably the lab fridge; old-time chemists are bad about storing food and chemicals in the same refrigerator. And I'm almost positive my prof was the guy whose milk kept disappearing and who did the prank, because he loved pranks.)

Anyway, he decided to put an end to this milk thievery, got a syringe and injected a healthy dose of methylene blue into a pint of milk. The thief opened the carton, glugged down half, maybe all of it, without noticing anything different, and then spent a lot of time in the bathroom.

No more milk was stolen.

I could see the young Huckster out on the sideroads looking for newly deceased "varmints"...fighting off the other critters and then running back to the dorm like some "alpha male".

Having gone to college in Southern Illinois I recall all sorts of things that went into grills...or under them for that matter...but then the law was "you killed it, you eat it".

There was a bar by the tracks, I think called Sidetracks.. and outside when it closed you would find a bagel cart pushed around by a dirty guy, everything was dirty and gross, the drunk kids would eat it up, bagels piled with every topping known to man. :puke:
