So I am out of work for the first time in 10 years (Since I met the wife and we married).

We applied for medi-cal. They wanted everything you can imagine - copies of birth certificates, bank statements, etc and so on.

I could not find my or my daughter's BC (birth certificate) but we sent in all the documents we had other than that. The cost to get that info online was more than I can afford right now.

My wife was denied health care (we all were) based on the fact we did not have those two pieces of info. I did finally find my daughters BC, still looking for mine (we have moved a lot in the last few years, still not fully unpacked from last move).

I will take the blame for being unorganized. The last few years have been hell on me and my family (many deaths, job loss, moving, etc). *I* should have been more organized and on top of things, my bad.

*BUT* if my wife goes to fly somewhere, your search her based on your records. You (the govt) have trillions of dollars and tons of info about us at your fingertips - and yet you cannot verify who we are when we need your help????

If I get stopped for a traffic violation you can pull up a lot of data on me. If I want to leave the country you can look up a lot about me. But when I need you suddenly you don't know anything about me?

Hello....That is so fucking stupid I don't know where to begin.

When you want to restrict me, all you need is a small bit of data. When I want something back from you I have to spend a lot of money and time just to prove I am who I say I am? When you want something, all you need is a fingerprint or SS number, etc and you are good to go - you are confident I am who you say I am. But when I want something - you want me to produce a ton of documentation from bank statements to BC's.

Do you not see the disconnect? If I violate some federal law you would arrest me without having to have me produce any data at all (cause you already have it). But when my wife is sick, I am out of work, all of the sudden you want a ton of paperwork?

You would have NO problem proving who I am if you were attacking me for not paying taxes, etc, but (again) if I need something from you than you want a ton of data (some of which can cost me money I don't have right now).

In this modern day of computers you will trust information if it helps you, but not if it helps me.

To me, there is something wrong with that.

from the county where I was born. That was to get a driver's license, even though I had an expired license with my picture and birthdate on it, and I had a picture student ID with my SSN on it. Then since they only sent a little slip of paper instead of a certificate, I had to do it all again, years later, plus express mailing, to get my passport in time to take a trip to Europe. I think the passport works in lieu of a birth certificate. So I plan to keep that current, especially after all the expense and trouble I went through to get it.
